On 29 July 2024 Rheinmetall celebrated the official takeover of its new state-of-the-art 30mm ammunition factory in Várpalota, Hungary. The ceremony took place in presence of the Hungarian Minister of Defence Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky and the CEO of Rheinmetall AG, Armin Papperger. The new production facility in Várpalota is a significant milestone in Rheinmetall’s expansion strategy. It underlines the company’s commitment in providing up-to-date technologies to support the defence capabilities of its partners. The factory is designed to produce 30mm ammunition for the KF41 Lynx infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), which will be built in Zalaegerszeg and delivered to the Hungarian armed forces. The Várpalota factory will start production in October 2024. Furthermore, ammunition for battle tanks and artillery as well as igniters will be among the products manufactured in Várpalota in a second phase. In the final expansion stage, the company site will cover a total of around 150 hectares. In his opening speech, Armin Papperger highlighted the importance of the new factory for Rheinmetall and the site in Hungary: “The opening of this state-of-the-art ammunition factory in Várpalota is a clear signal to our commitment concerning innovation and quality. This facility will not only strengthen the defence capabilities of our global partners and in Hungary, but will also contribute to the economic development of the region.” In his address, Hungarian Defence Minister Szalay-Bobrovniczky emphasised the strategic importance of the cooperation with Rheinmetall, and stressed the joint efforts in strengthening the national security and defence industry. The new factory in Várpalota is equipped with the latest technology and will create more than 200 jobs in the region, making an important contribution to the local economy. The establishment of the Lynx IFV and other Lynx models also strengthens the development of the Hungarian defence industry. Rheinmetall is thus continuing its tradition of contributing to global security through technological innovation and close partnerships. https://lnkd.in/erUtDEWz #RheinmetallHungary #Várpalota

At a ceremony on 24 July 2024, Rheinmetall handed over the first KF41 Lynx infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) produced at the Zalaegerszeg site in Hungary to the Hungarian armed forces. On behalf of the Hungarian government, Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky attended the handover. Dr Björn Bernhard (Head of Rheinmetall Vehicle Systems Europe) and Paul Walf (CEO Rheinmetall Hungary) welcomed the guests on behalf of Rheinmetall. The first Lynx from Hungarian production was already completed in December 2023. Following extensive functional inspections as well as performance and quality acceptances, it has now been officially handed over to the Hungarian armed forces. In Zalaegerszeg, Rheinmetall Group operates the world's most modern competence centre for the production of tracked armoured vehicles, in particular the highly innovative Lynx. The factory was opened in August 2023. Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Defence Minister of Hungary: “I often say that peace requires strength, which means a lot of kinds of strength, and in this regard, we have gained real and serious strength with Rheinmetall and in this alliance, which significantly enriches Hungary. This is a kind of strategic partnership that is more than strategy or partnership – this is a real alliance, and within this framework, we hope to win the future for Hungarians, and we’re building something that will remain for the next generations, and we’re strengthening Hungary.” Dr Björn Bernhard, Head of Rheinmetall Vehicle Systems Europe: “We are grateful to be able to support the Hungarian armed forces as an industrial partner in the Lynx lighthouse project. We have now reached an important milestone within the project. With the production of the Lynx, we are seriously proving our commitment in creating local added value in Hungary and transferring technology to the country. This model is also transferable to other countries which might also be interested in similar partnerships”. In August 2020, the Hungarian Ministry of Defence commissioned the Rheinmetall Group to supply combat vehicles and associated services worth over €2bn as part of its “Zrínyi 2026” initiative. A total of 209 Lynx KF41s are to be supplied to the Hungarian armed forces in seven variants: IFV, command post vehicle, armoured reconnaissance vehicle, fire control vehicle, mortar carrier, medical vehicle and driving school vehicle. A Lynx air defence tank with a Skyranger 30 turret is also in progress as part of another development contract, placed in December 2023. The Düsseldorf-based technology group Rheinmetall has been commissioned by the Swiss Confederation to manufacture and supply 81mm mortar cargo ammunition. The total value of the order is in the mid double-digit million euro range. The entire scope of supply comprises 81mm MX2-KM mortar weapons from Rheinmetall EXPAL Munitions SA as well as 81mm mortar cartridges Cargo for illumination white light, illumination infrared and smoke discharge based on RP (Red Phospor), which are manufactured by Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH at the Neuenburg am Rhein plant. The delivery is scheduled to be completed by 2025 and includes various additional services as part of the product launch. The cartridges are qualified for the MX2-KM mortar of the Swiss armed forces and, together with the weapon system, form a mortar system in which both the ammunition and the weapon system are manufactured by Rheinmetall. At the end of the qualification measures, the cargo cartridges were verified at a test site on the Spanish coast. The order underscores Rheinmetall's expertise in the production of state-of-the-art steep-fire mortar ammunition. https://lnkd.in/eCaaRX52 #Rheinmetall

750 women, one mission: Our women@Rheinmetall network wants to actively help shape the future of Rheinmetall – with project ideas from within the community.  The mission of the community is clearly defined for the next few years: To create a space where the femininity and potential of every person is seen as a key contribution to Rheinmetall’s business success. Today you can read what Sabine Weber experienced as a founding member and today being part of the core team of women@Rheinmetall. Sabine Weber, Director of Global Project Purchasing at the Power Systems division, was one of the community’s first members. Following an interview on women’s empowerment, she was asked if she would like to get involved in the women’s community – “and so I became a founding member,” she says. The more we achieved, the more seriously they took our network. We still have a long way to go, but it’s wonderful to see how a handful of women can get so many balls rolling.” A goal for the next level: Be more international. This is an area where Sabine Weber is actively involved on account of her role at Rheinmetall locations all over the world. “I recently took advantage of a business trip to India to speak to the female personnel at Rheinmetall Automotive’s site in Pune as an ambassador for our network. It is important to me to speak to women at other sites and to encourage them to start up local projects that we in the core team can manage and support remotely.” Find out more about our shapers of change: https://lnkd.in/dmkGqfCK More insights into our women@Rheinmetall network: https://lnkd.in/eh_yty-s #womenatrheinmetall #rheinmetall #career #femaleempowerment #diversity

Rheinmetall has now received its first important order from the Ukrainian government for the construction of an ammunition factory in the Ukraine, which was announced in February 2024, and marks the starting point for the realisation of the project. The order for the Duesseldorf-based technology group Rheinmetall covers the complete technical equipment of the factory through to commissioning. This involves a total value ranged in a low three-digit million euro range, which will be booked as incoming order at the start of the third quarter of 2024. It is foreseen to begin in short term and to be completed within a few years. The intention is to start the ammunition production in the Ukraine within 24 months. Together with its Ukrainian joint venture partner, Rheinmetall will also be responsible for operating the plant. Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG: “We are putting our words into action and together with our partner we will create a Ukrainian competence centre for ammunition. The order underlines the confidence in Rheinmetall's expertise and manufacturing capacities. We are grateful to be able to support the country in its re-industrialisation and in strengthening its defence capability”. Measures are currently being taken in the Ukraine to prepare the necessary infrastructure. A joint venture between Rheinmetall and a Ukrainian state-owned company in operating the ammunition plant is about to be established. This was announced at a side-discussion at the Munich Security Conference in February 2024. In June 2024, the CEO of Rheinmetall AG, Armin Papperger, and the Ukrainian Minister for Strategic Industries, Oleksandr Kamyshin, signed an agreement to expand the strategic cooperation at the “Ukraine Recovery Conference” in Berlin. A few days earlier, they opened an armour plant in western Ukraine, which is operated by the joint venture Rheinmetall Ukrainian Defence Industry LLC. The first Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) from Rheinmetall is to be handed over to the Ukrainian armed forces before the end of this year, and local production is to commence as soon as possible. https://lnkd.in/gyE-_C7d #Rheinmetall #Ukraine

Rheinmetall has won two orders in the field of exhaust technology for hybrid vehicles with a total value of around €20 million. Both orders relate to the subsidiary Pierburg China. One order is for the supply of fuel tank shut-off valves (FTIV) by a well-known Chinese supplier of carbon canisters. The contract has a term of five years and a total value of around €10 million. The fuel tank shut-off valve plays a key role in plug-in hybrid vehicles, as it prevents fuel vapours from escaping and regulates the pressure ratio in the fuel tank when the vehicle is in electric mode. It is characterised by its compact size, fast response and low power consumption. The ordered shut-off valves are installed on the carbon dioxide tank to achieve better control over the escape of fuel vapours and to better meet the requirements of emission regulations. In line with the ‘local for local’ principle, Rheinmetall will set up a new production line for this order at the Pierburg plant in Kunshan in order to start series production in January 2026. Secondly, low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation valves (LP EGR) were ordered by a well-known Chinese premium OEM. The order is also worth around €10 million and relates to the manufacturer's premium saloon and SUV models. The valves will also be manufactured at the Pierburg plant in Kunshan. Series production is scheduled to start in December 2025 and the contract will run for six years. The low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation valves reduce nitrogen oxide emissions and lower fuel consumption. The customer was impressed by the quality features of the compact flap valve with its outstanding durability, long service life, high corrosion resistance and high positioning accuracy. With this sales success, Rheinmetall is emphasising its strategic goal of maintaining and further expanding its position as one of the global market leaders in the field of emission reduction in the long term. The market segment of vehicles powered either purely by an internal combustion engine or hybrid will continue to generate high demand for a long time to come, despite the great importance of modern emission-free mobility. Rheinmetall is a system partner for all questions relating to the precise control of exhaust gas recirculation rates, regardless of whether diesel, petrol or hybrid engines, passenger cars, commercial vehicles or industrial engines are involved. The expertise portfolio ranges from exhaust gas recirculation systems in the high or low pressure range, cold-side or hot-side design, ‘smart’ or ‘non-smart’ as well as metal or plastic housings. The products are individually tailored to the customer's needs. https://lnkd.in/epXR7EdE #Rheinmetall #hybridvehicles

As an employer, it is important for us to support and train our employees in dealing with diversity in their daily work. The result is equal opportunities for all. Carina Sembritzki, who has been working in our Internal Audit team at Rheinmetall since 2021, is part of our diverse team. Since the age of two, she has been severely handicapped by hearing loss bordering on deafness. She is open about her disability and draws conclusions that are important for everyone. "Of course, there are situations in everyday life where I have to overcome special challenges. These include conversations with a lot of background noise, such as in the cafeteria or on the phone abroad. However, I never see this as something negative, but rather as "something" that can teach you a lot about yourself and other people. I always remind myself that my hearing loss is not as present and obvious to others as it is to me. It helps to be extra open about it and also leads to nice and interesting conversations. That gives you self-confidence and self-awareness. Rheinmetall has a very liberal approach to this issue. During the hiring process, employees were only asked what they needed to do their jobs properly. This includes a headset and an office with no background noise. "To be honest, it was never an issue otherwise," she says. "Owning up to your disability also means owning up to yourself. You can only be helped if you are open about what you need. This is the prerequisite for finding solutions. If you don't hear well or can't follow a conversation, it's helpful to make people aware of that and communicate it openly. People are more aware of me and speak louder and slower, for example, which has a very positive effect on me because it makes my everyday life easier. And as mentioned above, overcoming difficult situations brings a lot of self-confidence and self-assurance". She does not (yet) see a real "corporate culture for people with severe disabilities" at Rheinmetall. Although it is known that there are representatives for severely disabled employees within the prescribed framework, few details are known beyond that. Christian Schulte, Senior Expert Diversity at Rheinmetall, has set himself the task of changing this."I believe that much more can be done here. Both internally and externally in terms of communication, but also in terms of substance." Carina Sembritzki has a lot of ideas."A common network, exchange of ideas, mutual support, maybe even a buddy for newcomers and so on... I have a lot of ideas!" Her hearing loss does not define her limits, but her possibilities. She has learned to be proud of her individuality and to go her own way with confidence.  We will support her if necessary. And with this interview, she will hopefully inspire many people, both inside and outside Rheinmetall, to follow their own path openly and confidently.
