The foundation, which develops our corporate social responsibility programmes in Italy, has just celebrated its 10th anniversary. 🎊 Since 2014, the foundation has been helping shape equitable and inclusive communities in Italy. Its projects cover a wide range of activities, such as supporting disadvantaged communities, protecting and restoring nature, and helping young people reach their full potential. 👥 In its work, Fondazione Deutsche Bank Italia partners with organisations passionate about achieving similar goals. But Deutsche Bank Italia employees are the backbone of the foundation’s existence, running all its operations on a volunteer basis and bringing in their own skills and experiences to advance its work. 𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑻𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔: The evolution of telephones in banking ☎ The telephone, patented in 1876, revolutionised communication, and banks were among the early adopters of this new medium. From 1881, Deutsche Bank could be reached by dialing “46” – one line for the entire bank. By early 1912, the bank’s Berlin headquarters had an internal network of 268 separate telephone lines, used for an average of 3,500 calls every day. In 1924, Deutsche Bank installed an automatic internal telephone system in Berlin, eliminating the need for manual connections. This marked the telephone’s rise as a mass communication medium. 📞 Working over the phone also opened up the banking profession to women. Following the onset of World War I, Deutsche Bank’s telephone exchanges were staffed exclusively by female operators. 👩💼 Up until the 1970s, a telephone held to the ear conveyed the image of a busy manager. And foreign exchange traders often managed several phones at the same time. 📣 Strong operating performance in the first six months of 2024. Looking at our 2Q financial results, excluding the Postbank litigation provision, we demonstrate strong underlying performance: ☑️ Second-quarter profit before tax of € 1.7 billion. ☑️ For the first six months, profit before tax was € 3.8 billion. ☑️ Net revenues were € 7.6 billion in the second quarter, up 2% year on year and € 15.4 billion, also up 2% in the first six months. ☑️ Our CET1 ratio is a very solid 13.5%, we distributed € 3.3 billion of capital to shareholders since 2022, and we continue to implement our Capital Efficiency programme. 2Q revenue development in our core businesses was as follows: 👉 Corporate Bank: € 1.9 billion, essentially flat compared to 2Q 2023. 👉 Investment Bank: € 2.6 billion, up 10% compared to 2Q 2023. 👉 Private Bank: € 2.3 billion, down 3% compared to 2Q 2023 due to a normalising interest rate environment. 👉 Asset Management: € 663 million, up 7% compared to 2Q 2023 . 👏 A round of applause for our Deutsche Bank TechHackathon 2024 winners! Last week our global annual DB TechHackathon took place in 16 Deutsche Bank offices around the world. Together with Dementia UK, nearly 2,300 colleagues spent 24 hours coding against the clock. 💻 Their challenge: to design the best tech prototype to support those impacted by dementia. 🏆 The NeuroCodes from Magarpatta, Pune, were crowned winners, beating 263 teams and making it through 16 global presentations. Their solution, REVA, supports children and young people who have family members affected by dementia. 🧑🧑🧒🧒 REVA is integrated into a smart home device and has cognitive search features. It uses an empathetic tone to reassure young users, who may often not be able to understand the change in behaviour of their parent or loved one. The winning solution will now be developed into an application, supporting Dementia UK in its mission to help families affected by dementia. 📲 🥈 Cyberpunks, in Bangalore, took second place with their Care-Link mobile app for dementia caregivers, connecting them to patients via a wearable device. Caregivers can track their patients' live location, set safe perimeters and custom reminders, amongst other things. 🥉 Third place went to Brainiacs, in Cary, with their app Debby AI. The app allows the finances of dementia patients to be easily managed, helping them to remain independent for as long as possible. 💡 Last but by no means least, Dementia Defenders, from Dublin, won “Best Use of Artificial Intelligence”.
