We are now 'Entering uncharted territory, our immediate future is marked with extreme climatic conditions because of escalating global temperatures caused by ongoing human activities that release harmful greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Unfortunately, time is up warns the UN Chief and climate scientists..... ' The recent articles by the United Nations and Climate Scientists is hard to digest (https://lnkd.in/eNN82WUd). One of several recommendations is that 'to address the overexploitation of our planet, we need to challenge the prevailing notion of endless growth and overconsumption by rich countries and individuals as unsustainable and unjust (Rockström et al. 2023). Instead, we advocate for reducing resource overconsumption; reducing, reusing, and recycling waste in a more circular economy; and prioritizing human flourishing and sustainability.' Recently the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), one of the world’s Big Three management consulting firms, has identified sustainable construction as one of five fast-growing opportunities for New Zealand’s green economy in a report titled The Green Economy Represents an Opportunity to Supercharge New Zealand https://lnkd.in/enFnNDNx The report says New Zealand’s construction sector can unlock significant opportunities in the green economy by embracing circular economy opportunities. Using waste materials in construction will reduce the carbon footprint of building materials and construction waste. This is why saveBOARD was established in Australia and New Zealand; we are a low carbon building material and has a significant climate change benefit, when used instead of traditional building products. Most traditional building materials cannot fundamentally change their embodied carbon as its inherent in how it is made and is unlikely to be greatly reduced. Every saveBOARD product used saves on average 25kg of waste that would normally go to landfill and our product is circular as well and all offcuts and end of life material can be returned for remanufacture. Our challenge to the construction industry is choose planet first, rather than price and doing it the same way you’ve always done before. The first step is always the hardest, however changing to circular economy products or services is the right thing to do. #unchartedterritory #climatechange #sustainableconstruction #circulareconomy #saveBOARD
