The biggest difference with the Orbi system is that it is about the only domestic grade mesh system available that has wired backhaul. This means that you can plug each satellite into your hard wired network so it isn't trying to contact the router via wireless. In our new house which is 3 levels with a concrete floor between 2 of the levels having wired backhaul means that there is 100% signal strength across the whole house. Wired backhaul also means that data going back through the router isn't using any wireless bandwidth. It also means on a large property you could run a network cable underground out to a shed or outbuilding and plug in a satellite and then you have full wireless strength even though you may be well away from your main router. In mesh systems without backhaul I found that for far away areas the satellite would have to daisy chain back to the main router which created a massive drop off in speed and reliability.
Setup was a breeze and the speed is amazing, I'm easily getting 520mbps wirelessly across the house. It has a great feature where you can have all your smart home devices on a separate wireless network which is good security-wise. I bought an additional satellite to go outside in a weatherproof box so now with 1 router and 3 satellites I have 100% signal strength across our 10,000ft2 block and 3 level house. It's what wireless was always promised to be but never delivered until now.
The phone app is very good and it has a great feature where you can see and control your network even when you are out of the house. The web interface to the router is good and allows a lot of control over permissions and data usage by device and user on the network so you can say prioritize your apple TV device so no matter what others are doing on your network you don't get caching when you are trying to watch a 4k movie.
My only gripe is Netgear only offers 90 days of technical support unless you pay monthly for support. I would agree if it is novice support on network setup but when it is due to a firmware update that has dozens of reports on their chat pages of having issues I don't think you should have to pay to get a simple answer as to whether the firmware upgrade should be rolled back to solve a particular problem. Especially when you have paid thousands to buy the mesh system.
The backhaul is 2.5gbe which is unbelievably fast so if you plug your PC into one of the 4 data points provided on each satellite and you are using backhaul you can have file transfer rates of 250Mbps across your network (as long as if you are using a switch the switch must be at least 2.5gbe). I put in a 10GBe switch and now our home network and wireless is comparable to enterprise-level fast.
Netgear do offer an Armor subscription that you can then install on your computer and then the router and the software offer a very high level of malware and intrusion protection. However, I found that it was so intrusive that it blocked a lot of legitimate programs and operations so I uninstalled it.
It is crazy expensive for a home wireless setup but in all fairness, it is so much better than everything else I've tried, the wired backhaul alone is worth the price of entry.
Set up went fairly easily but the ethernet ports on the unit were not active. They would give an IP, but not connectivity. A after lots of reading and a firmware upgrade, the ports started working, but the WiFi was incredibly slow. After a bunch more reading it was suggested to do a hard reset. At this point I was pretty put out with what is one of the most expensive WiFi Apps around and learning that after a firmware update you have to hard reset the unit. But I did and the WiFi was fast again. But the ports quit working again. If I had not waiting so long after purchase to set this up, I would have returned this unit at this point.
The app for this unit has very few of the features available and after more reading I decided to access the unit with a browser. Many more features offered here. While neither the app or the web browser access said there were any more firmware updates, the website did so I followed the instructions to do a manual firmware upgrade. At this point I concluded this was the most difficult WiFi AP I have ever set up. Especially since after updating the firmware it locked my laptop out of the Router. No more browser access. I had to use a mobile device to login with a browser, allow access to the dozen or so devices that it randomly decided to disallow access and reboot the unit.
This final firmware update did resolve the port connectivity issue and the WiFi is fast again. Updateing the firmware in the satellite unit was equally as difficult, having to access the unit independently via a browser.
There is no way I can recommend this unit to anyone who is not very technically included and patient. I cannot believe any home users can plug and play with this unit. It is incredibly expensive so you would expect it to be intuitive and simple to use, but it is not. By far, the most difficult unit to setup and use. I would not buy this again. Would even sell it if someone wants it. Frustrated I paid so much for it.

I had been using dual Netgear R7000 due to its signal strength. One was next to the ISP router and the other was in the 2nd floor connected using powerline. I had 200mbit connection. From my working room, using alpha usb wireless and then wifi-6 motherboard built in, I was getting around 150mbit from the ground floor Netgear. Family were connecting to the 2nd floor Netgear which provided 50mbit (due to the powerline).
I upgraded my connection to 500mbit, but I was not getting the full bandwidth with the setup mentioned above. My working room improved to 250-300mbit and that was it.
So, I started looking around for other solutions, talked to friends and so on. I landed on this product and started reading the reviews. I would have got it right away but its price was a stopper.
New network setup:
After about a month, I decided to go for it. Once I got it, I installed the main unit next to the ISP router. I used Orbi application which was easy to use. Once finished, I tested the speed and it was 500mbit. I went to the 2nd floor and tested my phone and PC speed. Both were under 250 mbit. I was a bit worried that this might not work. I went ahead and paired the 2nd unit with the main one, which took few minutes. Installed the 2nd unit in the 2nd floor where the R7000 was. I waited few minutes for it to boot and to connect with the main unit. I tested the phone and PC speed and BOOM, 500mbit. My PC is behind 1 wall but within half meter from the 2nd Orbi. Kids rooms were getting 300-400 mbit (with closed doors).
I am amazed and surprised that this product met my expectation.
Pros:
The package came with variety of power head plugins (US, EU, UK).
This product is to deliver bandwidth and it is stable.
Orbi application is nice despite some negative reviews about it.
Cons:
The product will handle 1 brick wall but 2 or more will have major effect on the signal quality.
It is still limited to the wifi range. Maybe one day the wifi range will extend significantly.
The price is still too high even though the product gave me what I want.
How the unit stands is worrying. If you tough it by accident, it will wobble and might fall down. I wish Netgear designed the base of the unit much better.
