  • Air cargo demand in June 2024 increased by 14.1% year-on-year boosting strong half-year performance 📈📦 Total H1 demand saw +13.4% growth YoY with volumes exceeding 2022, and even the record-breaking 2021 levels 👏 Asia-Pacific airlines saw +17% demand growth YoY. It is the strongest performance among all regions ✈️🌏 "Air cargo demand surged in June. Strong growth across all regions and major trade lanes combined for a record-breaking first-half performance in terms of CTKs. Maritime shipping constraints and a booming e-commerce sector are among the strongest growth drivers. Meanwhile, the sector has remained largely impervious to ongoing political and economic challenges, and the US customs crackdown on e-commerce deliveries from China. Air cargo looks to be on solid ground to continue its strong performance into the second half of 2024," said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General. On 23 July, about 80 participants attended the IATA ONE Record Roadshow in Singapore. We are grateful to our partners - SAAA @ Singapore, Singapore Airlines, SATS, CCN, WiseTech and IBS Solutions - for their support in making the Singapore roadshow a success! The Singapore ONE Record roadshow is the first of many we will be organizing across the region. IATA ONE Record aims to create an end-to-end digital logistics and transport supply chain. It is the next-generation message exchange standard, replacing CIMP and CXML by 2026. By creating a single record view of shipments, ONE Record allows businesses to obtain information from one source for their daily operations. It simplifies trade processes, promotes digital innovation, and enhances transparency. The Singapore roadshow provided the participants with the necessary information to adopt ONE Record, as well as networking opportunities to collaborate with partners on ONE record pilot projects. ONE Record can only be successful with the support of everyone. Without widespread adoption, stakeholders will not be able to fully realize the benefits of the standard.  I hope the industry can take the leap of faith to modernize our industry using the standard and capitalize on the latest AI innovation. We plan to organize similar roadshows in Japan and Korea for the remainder of 2024, and other key markets in Asia Pacific next year. #IATA #AirCargo #ONERecord Watch the event key highlights here! • What lessons can regulators learn from the CrowdStrike IT outage? The outage crashed 8.5 million computers and many critical systems worldwide ground to a halt. It was not an #aviation crisis but queues of people waiting at #airports made for the most telegenic news reports trying to put a human face on the extraordinary events that unfolded. There are many takeaways from the outage but an important lesson is that the EU 261 passenger rights regime looks ill-equipped to handle incidents of this kind. Business and first-class (premium) passengers constitute a mere 3% of all travelers, yet they play a pivotal role in airlines’ revenue streams. Premium fares, which are approximately five times higher than economy fares on average, contribute significantly – about 15% – to passenger revenue (excluding ancillary income). A boost to premium bookings is particularly encouraging for airlines' financial performance given that first and business-class fares have remained relatively more expensive in recent months. This positive trend may indicate the resurgence of corporate travel – coinciding with a robust restart of the corporate travel cycle.
