IEC everywhere for a safer and more efficient world
Info
The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) brings together 170 countries, and more than 20,000 experts cooperate on the global IEC platform to ensure that products work everywhere safely with each other. The IEC is the world's leading organization that prepares and publishes globally relevant International Standards for the whole energy chain, including all electrical, electronic and related technologies, devices and systems. The IEC also supports all forms of conformity assessment and administers four Conformity Assessment Systems that certify that components, equipment and systems used in homes, offices, healthcare facilities, public spaces, transportation, manufacturing, explosive environments and energy generation conform to them. IEC work covers a vast range of technologies: power generation (including all renewable energy sources), transmission, distribution, Smart Grid, batteries, home appliances, office and medical equipment, all public and private transportation, semiconductors, fibre optics, nanotechnology, multimedia, information technology, and more. It also addresses safety, EMC, performance and the environment.

What fuels a country's economic growth? 🌍💡 Economists once believed that capital and labor were the main drivers. However, post-WWII, the missing ingredient became clear: innovation and R&D. Including innovation revolutionized economic growth theories and reshaped government investment strategies. But new tech, while boosting growth, can also harm the climate by increasing carbon emissions. The focus now is on sustainable growth—leveraging tech and innovation to fight climate change. Were you affected by the CrowdStrike incident? ⚠️💻 Could international standards have prevented it? Many are calling it the worst cyber event in history with #Microsoft estimating that over 8 million computers around the world were disabled by the global IT outage. Experts say the issue got worse because there wasn't enough testing, monitoring, or communication—areas that IEC and ISO standards cover. Ever wondered how wind turbines work? 🌬️ It's pretty simple: instead of using electricity to create wind (like a fan), wind turbines use wind to generate electricity. The wind turns the turbine's propeller-like blades around a rotor, which spins a generator to produce electricity. So, how are they tested? The wind industry relies on digital models to test and certify wind turbines and their parts, such as rotor blades. Frank Ormel from IEC TC 88 explains further ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ebyvPc6D #IECetech #RenewableEnergy #WindPower
