Kristina has worked a variety of campus jobs, experimenting across disciplines and types of responsibilities, including as a Traverse Square Tutor,  Research Assistant for the MB&B and Psychology departments, WesMaSS Social Committee Coordinator, McNair Fellow, and Campus Employment Project Assistant at the Gordon Career Center.

 

What advice would you give to students who are seeking or starting their campus employment journey?

For students starting their campus employment journey, my advice would be to explore opportunities that align with their interests and goals. Don’t hesitate to reach out to supervisors or career advisors for guidance and support in finding the right fit. Once in a role, approach tasks with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, as each experience, no matter how small, can contribute to personal and professional growth. Lastly, don’t underestimate the value of networking and building relationships with colleagues and mentors, as they can provide valuable insights and opportunities for advancement.

 

In what ways has your campus job contributed to your personal, academic, or professional growth and aspirations?

My campus job as a Project Assistant in the Campus Employment department at the Gordon Career Center has been instrumental in my personal, academic, and professional growth. Professionally, I’ve honed my organizational and communication skills through coordinating various projects and assisting students with employment inquiries. Academically, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of university policies and procedures, which has been beneficial in navigating academic requirements. Personally, this job has taught me time management and prioritization skills, essential for balancing work, academics, and extracurriculars. Additionally, working in a diverse team has broadened my perspective and enhanced my interpersonal skills, which are crucial for any future career path.

 

Can you share any memorable experiences or achievements from your campus employment journey?

One memorable experience from my campus employment journey was organizing my first on-campus event, the Campus Job Mentorship Mixer. This event was designed to facilitate meaningful connections between students exploring campus employment and experienced peers from diverse departments. The planning process for the Campus Job Mentorship Mixer was both challenging and rewarding. I collaborated with various departments and student organizations to ensure a diverse range of perspectives and experiences were represented. From coordinating logistics to promoting the event, every aspect required attention to detail and effective communication. Overall, organizing the Campus Job Mentorship Mixer not only allowed me to showcase my event planning and coordination skills but also provided an opportunity to contribute to the campus community by creating a platform for meaningful connections and mentorship opportunities.

 

How has your campus job helped you build connections or networks within the university or broader community?

My campus jobs have provided numerous opportunities to build connections and networks within the university and broader community. Through collaborations with different departments and student organizations, I’ve been able to interact with a diverse range of individuals, fostering meaningful relationships and expanding my professional network. Additionally, attending workshops and events related to campus employment has allowed me to connect with industry professionals and alumni, opening doors for potential future endeavors.

 

Give your campus job supervisor(s) a shout out – what did you love about their mentorship?

I want to give a shout out to my campus job supervisors at the Gordon Career Center: Allison Soden and Cruz Cruz for their invaluable mentorship and support. They have always been approachable and willing to provide guidance, whether it’s clarifying job responsibilities or offering advice on career development. Their encouragement and trust in my abilities have empowered me to take on new challenges and grow both personally and professionally. I am truly grateful for their mentorship and the positive impact they have had on my campus employment and as well as my personal and professional development journey at Wesleyan.
