Development Manager
About the Role
The Development Manager position is an essential part of the Fairwinds team and the role is an opportunity to have a tremendous positive impact on behavioral health access and care on Nantucket. The development team at Fairwinds is responsible for raising approximately 2M+ per year in charitable giving to support free and accessible mental health care for Nantucket residents. The Development Manager contributes to this goal by providing critical support through a variety of tasks designed to advance and enhance fundraising, marketing, events, and general operations.
This is a full-time position. Remote or hybrid arrangements will be considered.
Key Areas of Responsibility
CRM, Data-Entry, and Research Support
- Ensure DonorPerfect, Fairwinds donor management database, is up to date and donor records are comprehensive.
- Daily, detailed data entry such as entering daily gifts and other information into DonorPerfect.
- Set up and manage DonorPerfect dashboards for key staff.
- Run and generate reports from DonorPerfect requested by team members including, but not limited to, annual campaigns, event invitations, and creating accurate mailing and donor lists.
- Oversee mail merges and set up outreach emails using MailChimp as requested.
- Assist with prospect research through creation of research profiles of potential supporters and add these to DonorPerfect.
- Assist the Executive Director in the stewardship process by providing detailed notes, prepping thank you letters, and other donor communiques.
- Print and mail accurate, timely donor acknowledgment letters.
- Manage and update lists of staff, Board members, Advisors, etc. in DonorPerfect to ensure accurate mailing lists and reporting.
Other Fundraising Support
- Contact/call donors, as requested, to update records, receive credit card or other information, and/or thank them or ask them for specific support.
- Coordinate and send physical and digital gift acknowledgments, thank you notes, thank you emails, and other stewardship communications.
- Own the team’s shared drive folders, keeping the team organized.
- Manage timeline, calendar and logistics for Fairwinds’ Annual Appeal mailing.
- Play a key role in Fairwinds annual event, Blooming Bids, by managing the auction software and logistics, ticket sales, and other important elements to ensure the event is a success.
- Provide logistics support for other fundraising-focused events as opportunities arise including speaking engagements, community events, living room events, etc.
- With support from senior staff, build an annual workplan that relates to the team’s and organization wide goals that uses Key Performance Indicators to communicate metrics, tactics and success.
- Produce summaries on donations, donors, event return on investment analysis and other reports, as needed.
General Support
- Availability during core business hours, Monday – Friday from 9am-5pm Eastern Time US via email, phone, and messaging application(s).
- Create and circulate agendas for team and governance meetings as well as note-taking, tracking action items, and following up directly with individuals in a “pleasantly persistent” manner.
- Coordinate and schedule internal and external meetings using a calendar system, Microsoft, and/or Zoom.
- Support the creation of presentations for Fairwinds Board meetings, as well as reports on campaigns/events as they relate to development.
- Liaise on IT issues, CRM issues, and computer applications.
- Obtain quotes for business expenditures such as printing, mailing, designing, advertising, etc.
- Work closely with Finance colleagues to ensure accuracy in donation records and reporting through monthly financial reconciliation.
- Visit the post office, and other necessary services on island, as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
Necessary Experience
- Track record of working remotely and meeting deadlines
- Willingness to use a variety of communication tools during working hours to ensure seamless and effective coordination of tasks
- Interest in accuracy and capturing critical details
- Experience prioritizing and executing multiple tasks simultaneously to achieve completion efficiently
- Experience with research and comfort with doing data-entry
- Comfortable with making phone calls and talking with donors, vendors, consultants and other staff
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other core computer programs and applications
Desirable Experience
- Nonprofit experience preferable
- Working knowledge of a CRM system such as DonorPerfect
- Experience interacting effectively with various VIPs including high net worth individuals who are donors

- Comfortable working remotely with a “roll-up-your-sleeves” environment that requires a high degree of dedication and willingness to work hard
Compensation
The Development Manager position offers an annual salary of 60-75K plus an opportunity for an annual bonus when fundraising goals are met or exceeded.
