Cardinal Internships
Cardinal Internships are offered by Wesleyan alumni, parents and employers who have a particular interest in Wesleyan students and welcome their applications. Posted throughout the year, these internships represent a wide range of fields and industries. In most cases, they are paid, occur over the summer, and do not require US work authorization.

All Cardinal Internships are posted on Handshake with full job descriptions and application instructions. They are publicized in the Gordon Career Center’s bi-weekly email newsletter. Students are also encouraged to check Handshake directly for new cardinal internships on a regular basis.

Fraudulent Job Postings and Employers

The Gordon Career Center offers Handshake as a resource for students to view job, internship, and volunteer opportunities. We cannot guarantee the quality, authenticity, or legitimacy of posted offerings. In the event that you come across a fraudulent employer or posting, we encourage you to contact Handshake and the Gordon Career Center immediately so that we may take appropriate action. Students maintain responsibility for their relationships formed through Handshake and should take reasonable precautions as they would with any potential new employment opportunity. When communicating with an employer or searching for a job, be on the lookout for the following “Red Flag” situations. If you encounter a “Red Flag” situation or any other concerning behavior with an employer, notify the Gordon Career Center immediately.

  • Makes an offer for a position without ever interacting/interviewing you
  • You receive an email from an employer you have had no interaction with offering you a job or to “make money quickly”
  • Offers a large sum of money for minimal work – seems too good to be true
  • Offers payment before you do any work or sends you compensation unexpectedly
  • Requests for you to make a payment upfront via transfer/wire money, money order, or courier
  • Requests your personal information – social security number, credit card information, bank account number, copies of your license, passport, photograph, or other personal documents
  • Posting lacks all or some of the following information: company name, address, contact information, telephone number, domain email address, etc.
  • Postings with spelling and grammatical errors
  • Employer website without a clear description of the business, contact information, or job descriptions
Always thoroughly research any employer and offered opportunities. If you suspect a posting is fraudulent, be sure to proceed with caution. Do not provide any personal information and do not click on any links. End all communications with the employer immediately and contact the Gordon Career Center, at 860-685-2180 or careercenter@wesleyan.edu, ASAP for assistance and advice on how to proceed.
