Hey Developers! Did you know that TorontoJS is launching a new "Accessibility for Devs" series of monthly events? 💡 No matter how we learn to code - bootcamp, university/college, self-taught with online courses and books - accessibility is overlooked and treated as a separate topic to writing good code. Yet it's an essential skill. Matt Ehrlich 👨💻 and Eric Winkelspecht spoke about this on Self-Taught Devs's 50th podcast episode: "Ask Us Anything" https://lnkd.in/g9R-iJ8b in response to my question asking how they learned to write accessible code. So this team at Toronto JavaScript's effort to support developers in learning essential skills to write accessible code. If you want to get ahead in your career come to this new series! When: Third Monday of every month starting on August 19th Where: Alternating between online on Zoom and in-person in downtown Toronto What's the first talk?: - BlindlyCoding: How I use a Screenreader to Code as a Blind Dev Demonstration and Q&A - Speaker: Florian Beijers Web Developer, Accessibility Consultant, formally Microsoft dev - Location: Online on Zoom - When: Monday, August 19, 2024 6:00 PM to 7:45 PM EDT - Reserve your spot here! : https://lnkd.in/gBMDzemf About the speaker of our first talk: 👋 "Throughout my day, I wear quite a few hats. Professionally speaking I'm a developer. A coder, programmer, webdev, super awesome rockstar ninja guru extreme. I also dabble in sarcasm. I have worked, and will work, on a variety of different projects in different spaces, including web app backends, mobile applications and the occasional project using JS frameworks like React and Vue. I have also worked as a lead coder for a text-based game for just over a year, something that allowed me to dip my toes into game development. Alongside, and tangentially related to, my development work, I am an accessibility consultant. I also simultaneously stream on Twitch and YouTube several times a week" Follow Florian online!
