Publisher Description
You're invited to the murder mystery party of the year! Fans of the hit series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will love Pip’s final detective case in this mystery novella from #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Jackson.
Six suspects. Three hours. One murder…
Pip is not in the mood for her friend’s murder mystery party. Especially one that involves 1920’s fancy dress and pretending that their town is an island called Joy. But when the game begins, Pip finds herself drawn into the make-believe world of intrigue, deception and murder.
But as Pip plays detective, teasing out the identity of the killer clue-by-clue, the murder of the fictional Reginald Remy isn’t the only case on her mind …

Different but mice tee up
This was a great quick read to tee up Pip’s larger story. A great intro of all the characters. I wish I read this before the whole series.
3 stars for Kill Joy, the prequel to the “Good Girls Guide to Murder” series
I did not really know what to expect with this novella, as I am pretty sure that this may be my very first one?
Regardless, I do wish I had read this first, before the trilogy that is “A Good Girls Guide to Murder.”
I liked it because had I not read the trilogy yet, it did pave the way to give you some insight to all of the characters.
Essentially, Connor, and his older brother Jamie, have decided to host their very own murder mystery dinner party. It included Pip, who goes on to be the protagonist of the trilogy series, as well as some of their other friends who are main characters in the series as well.
The party takes place at Connor & Jamie’s house, on a random night that the parents have gone out on a date, so no adults are home. From there, the crew of friends play the game.
If anything, this novella has inspired me to have my own murder mystery dinner party sometime in the future. I have sort of begun drafting some ideas down.
Overall, it was a cute & fast read - the only reason it took me more than one or two nights is because I had misplaced it, and by the time I found it again, I wanted to finish the other book I had started in its place. I do recommend reading this first, before the series, if possible! Though this DOES NOT need to be read to get any real backstory to the series (and could be skipped all together, honestly, but if you enjoyed the series or think that you will enjoy the trilogy, then by all means, check it out!)
need my own 1920s party
