Jeffrey Reddick, writer and creator of the long-running Final Destination horror franchise, is teaming up with Todd Slater on Bloody Mary: Origins, said to be a new spin on the classic urban legend per Deadline.

Bloody Mary: Origins is based on the New York Times bestseller Mary: The Summoning by Hillary Monahan.

The film follows “a group of teenage girls who discover an ancient spell that conjures the real Bloody Mary. When the terrifying entity pulls one of the girls through the mirror, she becomes trapped in the past living out the real Mary Worth’s last days. With time running out, the others must discover a way to save their friend in the past while vanquishing a terrorizing Bloody Mary in the present.”

Emmy winner Lane Shefter Bishop (The Venice Murders) is set to direct and produce through her Vast Entertainment banner.

Reddick wrote the script with John Stancari, who passed away in 2018 after a long battle with cancer. Bloody Mary: Origins will be dedicated to his memory.

In a statement on the project, Slater explained to Deadline, “The script brings Reddick’s signature blend of suspense, humor and horror to a completely new take on the urban legend my friends and I used to play as kids. Much like Final Destination created a theatrical franchise that generations have enjoyed, our goal is for ‘Bloody Mary’ to generate ongoing films with the same impressive longevity.”

The news of Reddick’s latest project comes on the heels of production news on Final Destination: Bloodlines. Building upon comments he made to Dread Central in 2022, Reddick suggested – without saying too much – that Final Destination: Bloodlines will add a whole new layer to the franchise. Reddick had noted that the sixth installment is “a true Final Destination movie,” but one that “doesn’t follow that kind of formula that we’ve kind of established.”

Casting is now underway on Bloody Mary: Origins, so expect to hear more soon.

Neve Campbell Says ‘Scream 7’ Will Focus On Sidney Prescott’s Story

It’s been a few months since we’ve gotten an official update on Scream 7, but one thing we do know for certain is that Neve Campbell will be back as Sidney Prescott this time around.

And according to Campbell, the upcoming seventh installment will be a return to the franchise’s roots in the sense that Sidney Prescott will be the central character of the movie.

We are going to follow Sidney,” Campbell confirms to ET Online this week.

“They did pitch the concept to me, and it’s the reason that I jumped on board,” Campbell adds. “I love these movies, they are so much fun to be a part of. I’m so grateful for them; I could never have imagined being a part of a movie that would have lasted this many decades.”

Sidney was featured as a supporting character in 2022’s Scream, while Campbell infamously did not return for the following year’s Scream VI due to a pay dispute. Those two movies, both directed by the filmmakers Radio Silence (Abigail), mixed a new generation of characters with the legacy characters, but much has happened since Scream VI released last year.

The franchise has been mired in controversy in the past several months, with new series leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega both exiting the project. Barrera was fired, while it was subsequently announced that Ortega wouldn’t be returning. At this time, we still don’t know if Jasmin Savoy Brown or Mason Gooding will be returning for Scream 7.

Original Scream scribe Kevin Williamson will DIRECT the upcoming Scream 7, with franchise mainstay Courteney Cox expected to also return as heroine Gale Weathers.

The upcoming Scream 7, which is currently untitled, was written by Guy Busick from a story by James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick. Stay tuned for more on the film as we learn it.
