The Legend of Sleepy Toho.

In a spooky cemetery Godzilla tells his sons Minya and Little about the legend of the Headless Gigan, a kaiju that got his head blown off and lurks in the deep cosmos, returning once a year on Halloween to use his hook hammers to remove another monsters head to replace his missing face!  So if you see a headless kaiju running at you waving huge claws, make for Tokyo Tower!  Once you stomp past it, the evil cyborg specter loses his power! With a hey hey and a clippity clop!  He's out looking for a top to swap!  Don't you stand there and figure a plan, you can't reason with a headless man! ============================ Happy Halloween everyone or as I call it, Happy Birthday!  I watched plenty of fun Halloween specials this year and after watching the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, I remembered Gigan getting his head blown off in Godzilla Final Wars and was struck by inspiration.

One Headache Coming Up!

A celebratory pic for a follower milestone on Deviantart.  It’s Jet Jaguar clambering up to the blindspot of Destroyah and preparing to rain blows on the back of his larger foes head!  With his stubby arms, huge wings and grasping tail, Destroyah is kind of slow and bulky and Jet is perched in the one spot he can’t reach!  It’s not the size of the monster in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the monster!

Clash of the Guardians

The undersea kingdom of Mu survived their destruction with a small isolated group after the battle with Atragon.  Gathering samples from the remains of the defeated Manda, they used advanced technology to resurrect their dragon god and have him attack the coastline of Okinawa to terrify the people and take revenge for the loss of the Mu empire!  But the royal Azumi family upon seeing the sea serpent ravage the coast sing the ancient song and awaken their own guardian the ferocious King Caesar!  The shaggy kaiju waded out into the shallows and confronted the serpent with a bass roar!  Manda rasped and lashed its coils around its adversary, trying to squeeze the life from King Caesar!  The mighty mammal seized Manda and kept the snapping fangs from sinking into his throat as they wrestled and staggered up and down the coast.  Manda continued to constrict King Caesar, hoping to break him with its steely coils.  Bracing himself, King Caesar let out a tremendous growl and seized handfuls of Manda pulling fiercely until finally wresting the writhing dragon off his body and hurling him into the side of a sea cliff!  Manda was stunned by the blow and before it could gather itself for a counter attack, King Caesar barreled down and shoulder rushed Manda, smashing him further into the rocky cliffside with a mighty crash!  Manda struck out with a savage bite but King Caesar backed up only to charge once more, further pummeling the sea serpent into the crumbling cliffside.   Finally having suffered enough, Manda slithered under the waves and back out to the open seas, retreating to the last vestiges of the Mu Empire while King Caesar roared in triumphed and marched ashore to take his resting place in the cliffs around the Azumi Castle. ============================= Wanted to draw two guardian kaiju picking a fight with each other and had a lot of fun with it!  King Caesar has some peculiar details to put on his form.  But I have two great references in my collection of figures.  Manda is once again based on his Destroy All Monsters design.

Harmless Monsters

So I know Tumblr is catching fire and I deliberately made this a SFW tumblr and yet several of my pictures got flagged.  Apparently Stegron, Anti Venom, Battra, Gabara and 70′s Showa Godzilla are offensive?  Jeez, who knew silly comic characters and rubber suits would be so damaging to the community?!

Shin Godzilla

So we watched the film for my birthday on Halloween.  The first time I saw it, I was a bit put off by Shin Gojira's story and design.   However, after viewing it the second time with my friends and family and seeing their reactions, hearing their questions and paying attention, I realize just how great the film is.  It's one of the very best ways to tell a horror film with a giant monster.  No clear goals, no discernible motive, just human ingenuity and effort versus a towering horror that threatens us all with its very existence.  His designs throughout the film are both horrid and confusing yet well developed.   The best part was after it was over, everyone turned to me and asked for answers about the stranger details of the film, (Which I won't spoil here).  I could only quote theories from the G-Fan magazine and personal musings but it made me happy to share my love of Godzilla with the people I love.  Shin may not be the prettiest Godzilla (That goes to the Heisei version obviously) but he's still a part of the franchise and I embrace him along with the others.   I think my friends enjoyed the feature but rest assured i still plan to shower them with viewings of all the classic Showa era shenanigans which turned me into a kaiju loving kid so many years ago.   I highly recommend watching the film Shin Godzilla to any G Fan out there for a really compelling film about humans, disaster situations and dealing with the unknown on a city wide level.  This film does not disappoint.

C’mere You Little Pest!

Drew this for a friend of mine.  We both play a table top game called Heroclix.  Both of these characters have heroclix figures made of them.  We played a friendly game and this clash did occur in our local gaming store.  I was playing Slash the mutant turtle and he was playing Spider-Man.  I just thought it would be fun to draw out the fight. (which he won btw)

Just like in this picture I could not land a punch on the web slinger during the whole game!

She Hulk

So for a short time Marvel had Jennifer Walters undergo a new design whenever she hulked out.  It was bigger, stronger but a little more savage and simpler.  I really liked it and the story behind the change of her trying to sort out her feelings.  Unfortunately, Marvel got cold feet about changing a design and quickly ended the series and had her turn right back to her usual jade self.  I’ve always liked She Hulk but this felt like such a flash in the pan idea when they could have gotten more use out of it.
