Regenerative agriculture for food system resilience & climate action
About us
Soil Capital is a mission-driven company with long expertise in regenerative agriculture and spearheading the low-carbon transition of farms. It was founded on the core belief that farmers should be rewarded and fairly compensated for their key role in tackling the ecological crisis. Operating internationally, Soil Capital’s ambition is to accompany farmers in the transition of 1 million hectares to more profitable and regenerative agriculture by 2025. In 2019, Soil Capital launched Europe’s first certified carbon payment programme to accelerate the adoption of regenerative practices. It now counts over 1,600 farmers in its ranks, spread across France, Belgium and the UK. We value farmers’ reduced carbon emissions and/or increased soil carbon storage on the carbon voluntary markets through high-integrity certification. Our carbon certification programme unlocks regenerative and resilient food supply chains, by connecting farmers with food & fiber companies committed to rebalancing our agriculture system. We also support companies that want to contribute to support regenerative farming as part of their global net zero initiatives.

[#Agronomic #News!] 🌾 Our agronomist Maxime Alaurent is in the fields in Aisne, France, where they were harvesting wheat. It's a perfect time to highlight some key principles of harvest operations in #regenerativesystems. 1️⃣ Traffic Control: The grain bin on the video holds about 21 tonnes of wheat when fully loaded, which is too heavy for the soil to bear with only two axles. Minimise driving on the field to avoid soil compaction, especially since the soil is wet this year. Whenever it is possible, leave the bins outside the field or, if you have to, follow the sprayers passes. Keeping #soilstructure intact ensures smooth gas and water flow, and therefore keeps favorable conditions for both plants and other soil #organisms, avoiding potential subsequent yield losses. 2️⃣ Straw Management: Leave the straw on the soil. In the exemple, the straw might bring about 4 tonnes of dry matter, providing essential carbon and nutrients for the soil microbiology during the tough summer months. 3️⃣ Weed Management: Prevent weed spread by cleaning your machinery before leaving the field. Collecting chaff can reduce weed pressure by more than 50% (Source : Arvalis) by exporting weed seeds out of the fields. https://lnkd.in/gfBaBM45. 4️⃣ #CoverCrops: Sow cover crops immediately after harvesting to benefit from residual moisture. Planting deeper (5 cm) can also help to secure germination and maximise biomass as soon as the rains return. 🌱 Wishing all our farmers a successful and stress-free harvest season! #RegenAg #Harvest2024 #FarmLife #SustainableFarming #WheatHarvest

🌱[Monday #Agronomic #News!] Today, we are sharing insights from the Berry region of France, visiting a farmer in the Soil Capital programme, an #innovativefarm managed with direct drill seeding and double cropping to ensure the soil is always covered. Key highlights: 🌾 Field Experiment: A test was conducted on a cereal plot by adding a 24-meter strip of peas (legumes). The results are clear: sorghum planted after the pea-cereal mix is more vigorous and green compared to sorghum after pure cereal. This shows the benefits of including #legumes in crop rotations. 🌿 Carbon Strategy: The farm identified a lack of easily digestible carbon, crucial for active soil fauna. To address this, we will work on rebalancing the carbon inputs to boost #soilhealth and productivity. Stay tuned for more updates as we refine strategies to boost #sustainablefarming practices. #Agriculture #Sustainability #CarbonManagement #SoilHealth #Innovation
