We are proud to share that Promat, our passive fire protection and high-performance insulation brand, is cutting its use of plastic packaging. 🇦🇪 In Dubai, we eliminated 84% of plastic by replacing plastic bags containing our cementitious sprays with recycled paper packaging. 🇧🇪 While in our microporous plant in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, we eliminated 78% of plastic by replacing plastic packaging with recycled cardboard and paper packaging. In Australia, we held our second Flick the Switch ceremony in a row to celebrate a switch to solar energy. In May 2023, our Altona plant in Victoria made the switch, and now it is Siniat’s turn at our Matraville plasterboard plant. The installation of 1924 solar panels is expected to generate 15% of the site's electricity and reduce CO2-e emissions by approximately 727 tonnes or 1.2% of the emissions from our Australian operations. 👉 With this major energy switch, we are proceeding on our Road to Sustainability 2030. We want to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions intensity (CO2e emission of Scopes 1 and 2) by 35%. To contribute to this, we aim to secure 100% certified renewable electricity for all our plants by 2030. We are pleased to say we are right on track, as we are at 60.9% today. In total, we have equipped 12 sites with PV installations and we plan to include more sites in 2024 and double our capacity within three years. In May this year we celebrated the completion of another #solar installation at one of our #plasterboard plants. This installation at Matraville, NSW includes 1924 solar panels on the roof space, expected to generate at least 15% of the site’s #electricity requirement. Switching to solar allows the factory to reduce its #carbon footprint with a CO2-e emission reduction of approximately 727 t, or 1.2% of the national operations #emissions (gate to gate). A "Flick the Switch" ceremony to celebrate the completion of the project attended by Jochen Friedrichs, Head of Division Building Performance, who was honoured with the task of pressing the button to turn the system on. Jochen was on visit to Australia, accompanied by Yves Slachmuylders, Head of Gypsum Platform, Transformation and Performance Management; Stephane Mettavant, Head of Building Performance and Gypsum Manufacturing; John Sinfield, Country Manager - UK & Ireland; Susana Nahum, Gypsum Innovation Manager Thruwall and Matteo Da Forno, ROE Region Lead. Globally Etex has set a target to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions intensity (CO2e emissions of Scopes 1 and 2) by 35% by 2030 compared to a 2018 baseline.
