Are Job Titles Losing Their Meaning? Let's Standardize Them for Better Success! As the founder of Talent Solution Partners, a successful Australian recruitment agency operating on a global scale, I've witnessed the rapid growth of many well-known fashion companies. With such growth, it's often the people who suffer the most. Internal teams struggle to keep up with recruitment, and training teams can’t keep up with development. This leads to a scenario where individuals are quickly promoted into managerial roles or where grandiose titles like "General Manager" or "Director" are created for what essentially remain store manager positions. We end up with someone who may have great potential but is thrown into the deep end with minimal training, promoted from a sales consultant to assistant manager, then store manager, and finally area manager in record time. From a recruitment perspective, I see area managers applying for state manager roles demanding $130K+S+Bonus plus travel and more, yet they are really only equipped to be an assistant manager at best—not by any fault of their own. This raises a critical question: Are we losing the integrity behind our roles and titles? I’ve even seen C-Suite titles handed out like high-fives. As Larry Page once said, "You don’t need a title to be a leader." However, a title should accurately reflect the experience and capability of the individual holding it. I call for the standardization of job titles across all industries. This would result in less confusion, greater success for candidates, and better positioning for companies, ultimately reducing turnover.
