Do You Need to Be an Experienced Speaker to Apply?

No, you don’t need prior experience as a speaker to apply. We welcome first-time speakers and offer resources, tips, and mentoring to help you prepare a successful presentation.

However, at WordCamp Asia, you will be speaking in front of large audiences, therefore we suggest applying only if you have some speaking experience – although not necessarily at local WordCamps or Meetups. While videos of past speaking engagements can be helpful, they are not required.

Do You Need Help with Your Talk?

Here are some tips to guide you:

  • Be Clear and Concise: Clearly outline the key points of your talk in your proposal.
  • Highlight Your Expertise: Showcase your experience and knowledge in the topic area.
  • Provide a Detailed Outline: Include the main points and any visuals or resources you plan to use.

Need additional support? Please don’t hesitate to let us know at asia-speakers@wordcamp.org. We’ll try to help you to the best of our abilities or connect you with experienced and generous people in the community who are willing to help you.

Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Goals for Speakers

When we started organizing WordCamp Asia, one of our fundamental principles was to focus on gender and regional diversity. For WordCamp Asia 2025, we are targeting the following to ensure proper inclusion and diversity.

  1. About 60% of local (Asian) speakers
  2. 40% non-male speakers

You can help us achieve this by sharing our “Call for Speakers” (or this page) with your local community via meetup groups, WordCamps, social media, other tech events, WhatsApp groups, etc.

Diverse Speaker Training Group

WordPress is a diverse community and the WC Asia organizers want to create a diverse speaker lineup. If you are considering submitting a topic but have hesitated in the past, we have great news!

The WordPress Diverse Speaker Training group has been working since 2017 to develop a 60-minute workshop, do take a look.

There is also a Slack channel #diverse-speaker-support in the main WordPress Slack, where you can meet potential speakers from marginalized and underrepresented groups.

Underrepresented Speaker Support

We are committed to diversity and encourage members from underrepresented groups to apply. Hence, we have started an Underrepresented Speaker Support Initiative to remove financial barriers for speakers, providing support to ensure diverse representation. If you want support, please email us at asia-speakers@wordcamp.org.

What are the Next Steps After You Submit Your Application?

Once we receive your application, we will review it and let you know if you have been selected. If you are chosen, we’ll need you to reconfirm your interest and availability to speak at WordCamp Asia 2025.

It’s a good idea to check visa requirements early. If you need any assistance with your visa application, we’ll be here to help. Don’t hesitate to write to us at asia-speakers@wordcamp.org.

FAQs

Which Language Should Your Talk Be In?

All talks must be in English.

How Many Talks Can You Submit?

You can submit up to two talk proposals.

Should You Buy a Ticket?

You can purchase a ticket when ticket sales open. If you are selected as a speaker, we will give you a complimentary ticket to attend the event. You can then transfer your purchased ticket to someone else.

Are You Open to Being a Backup Speaker?

During the event, we may need to activate a backup speaker due to unforeseen circumstances. Just in case, let us know if you are willing to be a backup speaker. Don’t worry—opting in as a backup speaker doesn’t mean you won’t be selected as a main speaker. It simply helps the program team know who is open to this role if they are not selected as the main speaker.
