This frail little tree looks somehwat majestic by the way Vincent van Gogh has painted it. The tree fills the whole lenght and breadth of the canvas. Van Gogh learned the technique of isolating, enlarging and foregrounding a single element of a landscape form Japanese woodcuts. Vincent was a huge admirer of Japanese prints. In his paintings he constantly tried to equal them.
