Outlook for Windows app replaces Mail and Calendar in new Windows 11 preview

Likewise. Plus, there is the little fact that MS will need to hold a login token to these services on their end, completely outsde of my control.

BMW abandons the i3, the car that could have birthed a bright electric future

I considered that car a few years back but, in all honestly, I can't understand how anyone could shekll the (high) price asked for that hunk. It was really ugly (admitedly a matter of taste) but it's main faults was the very poir range and extremely high price compared with similar offering from...

Meet “badBIOS,” the mysterious Mac and PC malware that jumps airgaps

Well, if it turned into a thread about journalists going back to their old articles and admitting that they have fussed over nonsense in order write a clickbait story, I'd approve. As it is, I'd rather forget it myself: I spend enough time in security.stackoverflow to have my share of orbital...

Meet “badBIOS,” the mysterious Mac and PC malware that jumps airgaps

I know it's halloween in the US but that doesn't justify thread necromancy - in particular for posting such nonsense

Google unveils a $249 smart camera that decides what’s worth photographing

I might have a use for such a thing: When I go paragliding, I'm one of these pilots who can't take the hands off the controls to take the camera out, risk it above 1000m of air just to take an interesting picture. Plus, in many occasion when I was witnessing a magnificent landscape, the air...

Aboard the NS Savannah, America’s first (and last) nuclear merchant ship

Facinating! Thank you very much for this piece. I actually had forgotten that the US once had a nuclear-powered civilian ship and I was delighted with the details and pictures.

Alaskan eagle attacks drone above icy waters below

I'm a paraglider and I can tell you that, in the sky, birds of prey are usually pretty nice to fly with but, when approached at the wrong moment and place, they can be extremely agressive: they won't hesitate to attack a wing even if it has 10 time their own wingspan. They will typically attack...

Internet cameras expose private video feeds and remote controls

I've stated my argument that safety regulation don't work because it's cheaper to "lobby" the people setting up the regulation than actually following the spirit behind it. I can pretty much PROVE it's cheaper as long as there is a critical mass (because regulation must be followed by every...

Internet cameras expose private video feeds and remote controls

Internet cameras expose private video feeds and remote controls

I'm not kidding. Not at all. VW was able to cheat for years and the only reason it was caught was because of an independent tests. Regulation and enforcement failed miserably. Furthermore, there ate strong indication that pretty much EVERY car maker with a thermal engine did something similar -...

Internet cameras expose private video feeds and remote controls

You're basically wishing that the second law of thermodynamic wouldn't exists. As long as there is no incentive to take security seriously, it won't be. Incentives can come from the vendors deciding to make security a selling point even if it increases the cost (which implies that people would...

Internet cameras expose private video feeds and remote controls

There is, honestly, no "good vendor". If you shop for price, then the quality you'll get will always be the lowest possible the supplier will be able to get away with. If you built a system based on cheap components (doesn't matter what kind of system), then you always have to take the...

Internet cameras expose private video feeds and remote controls

Best practice is: don't trust the camera. Ideally, you'd connect them to a monitoring server through a dedicated network. You then access the streams through that server. Synology's built-in system works fine for that.

HP grows Omen line with new gaming laptops, VR backpack PC, and more

You realize that none of the options listed in the "better options available" page you linked costs less than 200$ and that the only one under 250$ is way underpowered to be considered seriously ?

Ghost In The Shell film might be the most disappointing live-action reboot ever

I think you're right: the anime wasn't THAT good and the best part of it was what was taken from the manga. Now, that original manga WAS really excellent but it was good when it was created. Now, 20 to 25 years later, it has lost almost all of its novelty.

In Las Vegas, Audis now talk to traffic lights so you can count down to green

I've seen it in Greece too at a crossing odf a (very) busy road. The reason was simple: the road was wide and you really had a short time to cross and you better be off the road when the light turned green for cars (Greek people are extremely friendly in general as long as you don't put them...

Nikola reveals hydrogen fuel cell truck with range of 1,200 miles

Exactly. It doesn't have to be the most efficient transportation method possible, it need to be efficient enough to be economically feasible.
