Description

Labug is a software which simplifies the label making process of taxonomic work common to entomology and other field biology.

Attempting to create labels with popular word processors or spreadsheet software is incredibly tedious, requiring the biologist to copy and paste text several times and fiddle with alignment settings. Faced with large quantities of labels, this task becomes completely unreasonable. With Labug you only need to input your label information once and specify the required quantity. Labug takes care of the rest.

Labug also makes it easy to track the size of your labels, contributing to a homogeneous looking collection. With the “adaptive” size mode, the label area grows and shrinks as you input text, displaying the current size on the right panel. You may also input predetermined dimensions with the “specific” size mode, in which text input is restricted to the available area, or select a preset based on common locality label formats.

Jacob Gorneau ,

Really great tool and UI

This is an excellent tool! I wish there were an option to import from Excel document and an option to customize the serializations. For my own collection, I already have some accession ##s and would like to start at a specific number. I store msot of this info in an Excel document long-term so it would be nice to be able to import this way.

Developer Response ,

Hi Jacob, thanks for your feedback! Version 2.0 was just released and allows you to customize the serialization. I hope you enjoy this new feature.

As for importing from an Excel document, I imagine every collector maintains this differently, so it's not obvious how to handle importing. Should the app simply count the number of rows and start from there? Feel free to discuss this use case with me using the support link on my website. We can work out if it's a sensible feature to add.

Cheers
