APEN NIGHT MARKET: CELEBRATING 30 YEARS

Come for the Food, Stay for the Justice!

APEN is an organization with deep roots in California’s Asian immigrant and refugee communities. For 30 years, we’ve fought and won campaigns to make our communities healthier, just places where people can thrive.

To celebrate APEN’s 30th Anniversary, we are inviting you to join us for a festive Night Market in Downtown Oakland on July 20, 2024!

WHAT

A night market featuring food and drink vendors, activities, and performances from across the many communities represented in APEN’s Asian immigrant and refugee membership.

WHEN

July 20, 2024 from 4-9pm.

WHERE

The night market will take place at The Overlook at 344 20th Street in Downtown Oakland.

Public transportation or carpooling is highly recommended. The Overlook is easily accessible and located two blocks from the 19th Street BART Station in Downtown Oakland. Street parking is available on all streets surrounding The Overlook, but may be difficult to find on Saturday. Parking is metered from 8am–6pm Monday through Saturday. There is offsite garage parking nearby for $20/day. Alternatively, you can pre-purchase parking at a nearby lot via the SpotHero app.

CHECKING IN

When you enter the building, simply give the name you used when registering to the volunteers at the “General Registration” table to check in. If you included additional guests with your registration, they will need to check in under your name. If you purchased food tickets ahead of time, you will receive your tickets when you check in. Event sponsors, volunteers, and staff/board can check in at the “Sponsor check-in” table. After checking in, please use the escalators or elevator on the first floor to access the event.

If you signed up as a volunteer, you will receive additional instructions via email if you haven’t already.

COVID SAFETY

Given that COVID cases have increased in recent weeks, this is a high-risk event, with both indoor and outdoor areas and many guests eating and drinking unmasked. For that reason, we are asking all attendees to follow the following guidelines to help keep each other safe:

  • Masks are required at all times when not eating, drinking, or performing. We will have additional masks available for those who need them at check-in.
  • All APEN staff, volunteers and vendors will be required to take a COVID-19 test before the event, and other attendees are highly encouraged to test as well before and after the event.
  • Please stay home if you have any common COVID-19 symptoms (e.g. fever, chills, fatigue, runny nose, congestion, cough, sore throat) or if you have recently been exposed to COVID-19.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep our community safe!

ACCESSIBILITY

The Overlook is fully ADA and Wheelchair accessible.

Please reach out to events@apen4ej.org with any accessibility questions or requests. Thank you!

FOOD TICKETS

To buy food at the event, you need to purchase food tickets — our food vendors will not accept direct payment.

If you registered already but haven’t bought food tickets, you can still purchase food tickets ahead of time at a discount by July 19! Food tickets purchased ahead of time will be distributed when you check in. If you did not register, your food tickets will not be valid because you will not be able to enter the event.

You can also purchase food tickets at the event at the Food Tickets table on the second floor using your credit or debit card, but lines may be long so attendees are highly encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of time if you can.

Each food ticket can be exchanged for a small sample platter from one of our food vendors. Drinks will be available for purchase at the bar, and there will be complementary water and tea stations at the event.

GUESTS

If you included additional guests in your registration, they will be under your name at check-in. You do not need to arrive together as long as they give your name when checking in.

The event will be at capacity, so we do not expect to have additional tickets at the door for anyone not already registered. Sorry!

OTHER INFO

It can get cold outdoors at night, so please bring a light jacket 🧥
