Customer Review

We're a two 10lb cat family, and we've been Litter Robot enthusiasts and supporters for many years now and have used each generation of litter robot. We've had the Litter Robot III Open Air for about 6 months now and we've simply had it up to our necks with it.

Right off the bat we had issues with the interior shield and key as many others have. We removed that as was recommended since it was definitely interfering with the globe spinning and it would get debris on it as well, making it pointless since it just took up interior space.

Next up, we noticed right away was that the "full" sensor would trip every 2-3 days. The bag wouldn't be full, but it was clear the clumps were stacking up on top of each other falling down through the single outlet instead of dispersing in the tray as it does with the twin-outlet LRII. We'd have to pull the tray out, shake it all around to level the debris and stick it back in almost every other day. Yes, we made sure to clean the sensors inside. Yes, we made sure the plastic bag wasn't above the tray lip getting in the way. Yes, we tried multiple types of clumping litter as recommended in forums for this particular robot.

Next frustration came with the frequent (an understatement) failures to turn the globe due to "overfilling" the globe with litter. We made sure never to go over the fill line, but it doesn't seem to matter, it's as if the device arbitrarily decides when it's going to fail to turn. Not enough fingers and toes to count the number of times we've come home to find the device stuck halfway through a cycle.

Next up, the large opening resulted in a HUGE mess. One of our cats loves to enthusiastically clean up after himself. The large opening results in a lot of that litter hitting the floor. We blew another $25 for the rubber guard but it didn't seem to have any noticeable effect. So sick and tired of walking over cat litter and sweeping up in front of this.

Finally, and this was the straw that broke the camels back, the SMELL. This thing seems to be incapable of controlling the odor of the used litter compared to previous versions. Doesn't matter what litter we try. We've always had great success with World's Best and Precious Cat Ultra, but not with this unit. The smell is absolutely revolting and since our litter robot area is central in the home, in an open, vaulted ceiling space, the stench from the litter robot permeates through the entire house whether the mess has been in the tray for less than a day, or longer.

I'm just glad we kept the LRII. As of 2 days ago, the old LRII is back in service and the LRIII sits in the garage until I figure out how to get rid of it. Kitty litter mess in front of the unit is no longer an issue. Cat mess stench is gone. I wish we could get our money back on the LRIII. What a COLOSSAL disappointment considering how much we spent on it, plus accessories, plus the cost of the time having to babysit it.
