Customer Review

As a life long handbag addict during my pregnancy I researched and researched diaper bags to make sure I would have just the right one for me once the baby arrived. I decided I wanted a bag that worked as a backpack so I could be hands free if needed. I narrowed my search down to the Petunia Pickle Bottom backpack and the Ju-Ju-Be BFF. After going back and forth I decided to go with the Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy backpack. However, after 3 weeks of using it I decided to switch to the Ju-Ju-Be. For those who are debating which one to get, here's a breakdown of the two.

Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack
- beautiful, high quality fabrics; nicer than the JJB
- the foldout changing pad is really great. It's very convenient not having to open a separate compartment to access all diaper change accessories. What I don't like about the changing pad is it's not a material that can be easily wiped if accidentally it's dirtied during a diaper change. However, the changing pad is a really nice length, bigger than the JJB.
- comes with a wipes holding case, but it's nothing to rave about...I actually never used and just carried disposable wipe holders because I like ones where I can just pull the wipes from the top.
- lage size and fits a lot; however because the main compartment zips at the top, I found it hard to find things. When in sudden need of a pacifier I'd find myself frantically pulling everything out of the bag which made it impossible to stay organized.
- I didn't like that there wasn't a set place for my things...I'd have to dig through the baby stuff just to find my wallet for example.
- I know that this bag used to come with a Velcro closure and upgraded to the magnetic. Though I appreciate that it's less noisy, sometimes if I didn't remember to zip the main compartment thinking the flat would be sufficient and almost had stuff fall out. The magnet doesn't do a great job of staying closed...
- What ultimately drove me to give up this $190 bag after just 3 weeks of use were the god awful seatbelt straps. How could a bag that used such high quality materials have such uncomfortable straps???? I even researched trying to find a way to replace them with something else to no avail.

Ju-Ju-Be BFF Legacy
One night while breast feeding in the middle of the night I bit the bullet and ordered the Legacy in the Queen of Nile print.
- though the material is high quality, the fabrics don't compare aesthetically to that of the PPB. I do love the Queen of Nile...it's adult looking and doesn't scream diaper bag.
- this bag is significantly smaller than the PPB, however, because the main compartment opens all the way and I can actually see what's in it, I manage to fit just as much stuff in it.
- All the pockets are unbelievable. I love the clear pockets on the inside which make it easy to find samples of diaper creme product, etc that I carry around and always forget about.
- the 3M bottle pockets are awesome and actually work.
- My favorite pocket is the mommy pocket...it is genius! I mean there's even a perfect spot for my sunglasses which in Texas I cannot live without.
- though the changing pad is not a convenient zip off like the the PPB but has to be pulled out from separate pocket, it's still really functional because it fits a couple of diapers, a thing of wipes and the matching changing pad. I still don't have to go into the main compartment when I have to do a quick diaper change. My only complaint is that the pad is a tad short...not a problem yet as my son is only 3 weeks old, but I'm guessing when he gets older. I foresee just buying a random longer pad and using that instead.
- doesn't come with a wipe holder...but you can easily fit a holder that's not JJB.
- Though I was concerned about the size, it actually works perfectly because it's not a pain to pull in and out of my stroller and fits everything I would need.
- Last but not least...the straps on this bag are a dream! They are so soft and cushy. Feels the way a backpack should! I also like the top handle which just gives me one more way to pick up the bag.

In conclusion...though I wanted to love the PPB because aesthetically it initially appealed more to me, at the end of the day it just didn't meet my needs. I think if the straps weren't as horrible I would have continued using it...but that was the breaking point for me. Now that I have upgraded to the JJB I'm actually glad the PPB annoyed me enough to ditch it. I LOVE the JJB BFF bag....it could not be more thought through than it actually is. I get excited every time I get to use it and constantly get compliments. If you're debating between the two, don't make the same mistake I did and just go with the BFF!
