Matt Rogerson is joining the Financial Times as director of global public policy and platform strategy.

In this role, Rogerson will oversee the FT’s global public affairs strategy, engaging with legislators, regulators, trade bodies and governments across the FT’s key markets. He will join in September and be based in London.

Rogerson was previously director of public policy and acting chief communications and live officer at the Guardian Media Group. Before that, he led public affairs at Virgin Media, where he developed the company’s first in-house public affairs team, and has held a number of additional leadership roles in his career.

Rogerson will report to FT chief communications and marketing officer Finola McDonnell.

McDonnell said: “I’m delighted to welcome Matt to the team. He’s joining at a key moment for the news industry, as we deal with complex and fast-moving developments from new platform technologies to copyright and AI. Matt brings deep experience and strong relationships that will add huge value to our team.”

Rogerson said: “I’m thrilled to join the FT at a hugely exciting time for the business and the wider news industry. With so much political, regulatory and technological change happening around the world, I look forward to working with colleagues to ensure that the FT Group continues its amazing global growth story."
