SPONSORED BY YOUR NEW ENGLAND FORD DEALERS. ARGUABLY NO SINGLE NAME IS AS SYNONYMOUS WITH BASKETBALL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT THAN DUNCAN IS. THREE BROTHERS SPENT A DECADE AS CATAMOUNTS, WITH ONE STICKING AROUND IN THE GREEN MOUNTAIN STATE. AFTER GRADUATION, NBC5’S JACK MAIN CAUGHT UP WITH THE FRESH FACE THAT’S READY TO LEAD C-V-U BOYS BASKETBALL NEXT WINTER. UVM’S BIGGEST BASKETBALL FAMILY IS ROOTING THEMSELVES DEEPER INTO VERMONT. ERNIE DUNCAN, WHO IS THE OLDEST BROTHER TO EVERETT AND ROBIN, IS TRADING IN HIS SNEAKERS AND SHORTS FOR A WHISTLE AND A CLIPBOARD, BEING NAMED THE NEXT HEAD COACH FOR C-V-U BOYS BASKETBALL. NOW ORIGINALLY FROM INDIANA, ERNIE ESTABLISHED HIMSELF IN VERMONT AFTER GRADUATING FROM UVM IN 2019. IMMEDIATELY AFTER GETTING HIS DIPLOMA, HE STARTED DUNCAN HOOPS WITH HIS BROTHERS, GIVING VERMONT HOOPERS OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES AN OPPORTUNITY TO TRAIN YEAR ROUND AND NOW THE ABILITY TO COACH YOUNG ADULTS WILL TAKE HIS TRAINING TO THE NEXT LEVEL. ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR ME TO GROW BASKETBALL IN VERMONT, WHICH IS KIND OF WHAT I HAVE, UH, YOU KNOW, WANTED TO DO SINCE I GRADUATED. SO OBVIOUSLY A REALLY, REALLY SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL, A COMMUNITY THAT’S GOT A TON OF TALENT. YOU KNOW, BASKETBALL WISE, THAT’S PART OF THE BIG THING, TOO, IS THE PEOPLE IN THAT COMMUNITY. WHEN I CAME TO VERMONT, A BIG REASON WHY I’M STILL HERE IS BECAUSE I LOVE THE PEOPLE HERE. PEOPLE ARE SO NICE AND, UH, HAVE BEEN VERY WELCOMING SINCE I STEPPED ON CAMPUS AT UVM. AND I WANT TO OBVIOUSLY CONTINUE TO BE A PART OF IT. ERNIE AND HIS BROTHERS HAVE LEFT THEIR MARKS ON VERMONT BASKETBALL FOREVER, BUT THEY WON’T STOP WORKING UNTIL THEY HAVE ACHIEVED THE MOST. THEY CAN IN THE GREEN MOUNTAIN STATE. HOPEFULLY, I’VE HAD AN IMPACT ON EVERY KID THAT’S COMING TO MY GYM, EVERY KID THAT WHETHER I’VE WORKED WITH THEM FOR A WEEK OR TWO OR YEARS, HOPEFULLY I’VE MADE AN IMPACT. HOPEFULLY I CAN KIND OF SEE IT. YOU KNOW, IN, I WOULD SAY ANOTHER 3 OR 4 YEARS AND I’M HELPING KIDS GO TO COLLEGE, PLAY AT D3, D2, WHATEVER LEVEL. UM, HOPEFULLY I CAN HELP YOU KNOW, BUILD AN NBA PLAYER ONE DAY THE RED HAWKS HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE MOST CONSISTENT TEAMS IN VERMONT DIVISION ONE BOYS BASKETBALL. THEY MOST RECENTLY WON A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN 2023, AND THEY MADE IT BACK TO THE SEMIFINALS JUST THIS PAST SEASON. AND NOW ERNIE WILL USHER IN A NEW ERA OF RED HAWKS BASKETBALL AND LOOK TO CONTINUE THE DYNASTY FOR YEARS TO COME.
