Two dead after airplane veers off runway and crashes into body of water in Palm Beach County
WE’LL TALK ABOUT THAT AS WELL IN JUST A FEW MINUTES. RIGHT NOW, WE KNOW THE NTSB WILL BE AT THE SITE OF A DEADLY PLANE CRASH TODAY. TWO PEOPLE WERE KILLED AS THE PLANE VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY INTO THE WATER. THIS HAPPENED AT THE NORTH PALM BEACH COUNTY GENERAL AVIATION AIRPORT. JOSSIE CARBONARE HAS BEEN LIVE AT THE AIRPORT ALL MORNING. JOSE, WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE CRASH AT THIS HOUR? WELL, I’VE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH THE NTSB AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WILL BE OUT HERE TODAY INVESTIGATING, BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT PRELIMINARY REPORT WILL TAKE ABOUT 30 DAYS TO COMPLETE. SO WE WON’T HAVE ANY OF THAT INFORMATION FOR ANOTHER MONTH OR SO. BUT EARLIER WE DID SEE A LINE OF CARS. TAKE A LOOK AT THIS VIDEO. WE SAW A LINE OF PALM BEACH COUNTY SHERIFF’S CARS AND OTHER PERSONNEL HEADING TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE AIRPORT, AND THAT’S WHERE THAT LAKE IS LOCATED, WHERE THE PLANE CRASHED. THE CRASH HAPPENED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON HERE AT THE NORTH PALM BEACH COUNTY GENERAL AVIATION AIRPORT, JUST OFF OF BEELINE HIGHWAY, THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD SAYS THE PLANE THAT THE TWO MEN WERE IN WAS A PIPER PA 28. THE PLANE ENDED UP CRASHING INTO A NEARBY LAKE. NOW FIREFIGHTERS AND PARAMEDICS, THEY ARRIVED ALONG WITH THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE AND A DIVE TEAM. THE TWO MEN WERE PULLED OUT OF THE WRECKAGE AND RUSHED TO A NEARBY HOSPITAL, BUT THEY WERE LATER PRONOUNCED DEAD. WE BELIEVE IT WAS THE THE THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, EAGLE HELICOPTER THAT WAS ABLE TO FIND THE FUSELAGE THAT WAS UNDER THE WATER. ONCE WE FOUND THE FUSELAGE, WE WERE ABLE TO FIND TWO PEOPLE INSIDE THE AIRCRAFT. ONCE THEY WERE ON DRY LAND, WE IMMEDIATELY STARTED ADVANCED CARE AND TWO PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL TRAUMA CENTER. NOW, IT’S UNCLEAR HOW LONG THIS ENTIRE INVESTIGATION WILL TAKE, BUT WE’LL HAVE ALL THE LATEST BOTH ON AIR AND ONLINE RIGHT HERE ON WPBF 25 NEWS. AS THINGS DEVELOP FOR NOW.
