Democrats in 2nd Congressional District race say they still support Biden
Democrats running in New Hampshire's 2nd Congressional District are backing President Joe Biden, even as some other Democrats call for change.
Maggie Goodlander and Colin Van Ostern are vying for the Democratic nomination to try to succeed U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster in New Hampshire's 2nd District.
When asked about Biden's status atop their party's ticket, both said they believe he's still better than the Republican alternative.
"That's kind of my takeaway coming out of the debate," Van Ostern said. "It wasn't fun to watch, either as an American or a Democrat, but the choice is a very clear one between these two candidates."

"I think we've got to look at the broader record of the work the president has done for this country," Goodlander said. "And I was really proud to be a part of that work serving in the administration in the Justice Department, fighting against corporate monopolies and at the White House leading the unity agenda."
Between the two candidates, Goodlander is offering the stronger defense of the president.
"He's been a great president," she said. "He said he's running, and I'm going to support the Democratic nominee for president. And that's because this fall, democracy and freedom are on the ballot. And that's exactly why I've gotten into this race for this Congress in the 2nd District."
"(Biden) has a job right now, which is to win back that confidence that was taken from a lot of voters after watching the debate," Van Ostern said. "I have a different job. I'm running for Congress. My job is to win and stand up for reproductive rights and middle-class families, no matter who our nominee is, no matter who our next president is."
The candidates sidestepped questions about whether the president is making it more difficult for them to win. But other high-profile observers said the trend line right now is clear.
"I think this is going to make CD-2 very much in play," said Republican Gov. Chris Sununu.
