MAINE STATE POLICE SAY A 911 CALL AT 6:38 TUESDAY EVENING ALERTED THEM TO CHRISTOPHER HARRIMAN WHO WAS ALLEGEDLY HAVING SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, THREATENING TO HURT OTHER PEOPLE AND ARMED WITH AN AR STYLE RIFLE. POLICE SAY THEY FOUND HIM IN THE SACO-OLD ORCHARD AREA WHERE A SHORT, SLOW-SPEED CHASE BEGAN. MR. HARRIMAN ALLEGEDLY POINTED THE RIFLE OUT THE WINDOW AT POLICE . THE CHASE ENDED IN THE CASCADE PLAZA PARKING LOT BY THE SACO-BIDDEFORD SAVING A-T-M. POLICE TRIED TO NEGOTIATE WITH MR. HARRIMAN, BUT HE REACHED INTO HIS VEHICLE AND LOADED A ROUND INTO HIS RIFLE. A Limerick man is dead after a Maine State Police trooper fatally shot him in the parking lot of an Old Orchard Beach shopping plaza Tuesday night.Christopher Harriman, 38, was shot near an ATM at Landry's Cascade Plaza off Cascade Road, according to authorities.State police said that shortly after 6:30 p.m., they received a call from a woman who said Harriman was making suicidal threats. The woman also told police Harriman was in a black Cadillac Escalade with an AR-style rifle at the Kennebunk rest area on the Maine Turnpike, and that he was threatening to hurt others. When troopers arrived at the rest stop, Harriman was not there. The female caller then provided more information for law enforcement. Police officers from Saco and Old Orchard Beach responded, along with state troopers.Police said Harriman led officers on a slow-speed pursuit. At one point, Harriman pointed his gun out of his car window towards officers, according to authorities.When Harriman stopped in the Shoop 'n Save parking lot, law enforcement tried to negotiate with him and encouraged Harriman to turn himself in.Officials said Harriman then reached into his car, grabbed his gun and loaded a round into it. That is when MSP Trooper Ryan Phillips shot and killed Harriman.Philips will be on administrative leave, as is standard protocol when law enforcement officers are involved in the use of deadly force, while the Office of the Attorney General investigates.
