Hamilton County trying to place 5 foster siblings into same permanent home
SPECIAL GOING ON RIGHT NOW. WELL, THERE ARE MORE THAN 400 KIDS WAITING TO BE ADOPTED IN HAMILTON COUNTY, AND ALL OF THEM ARE LOOKING FOR THEIR FOREVER HOMES. FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, THOUGH, HAMILTON COUNTY JOB AND FAMILY SERVICES TRYING TO PLACE FIVE SIBLINGS ALL TOGETHER IN ONE HOME. SO WLWT NEWS FIVE’S LINDSEY STONE IS HERE NOW. SPENT THE DAY WITH THE FIVE KIDS AND I KNOW WHEN YOU SEE HER STORY THAT YOU’RE GOING TO WANT TO BE THAT FOREVER HOME. THESE KIDS ARE INCREDIBLE. WE SPENT THE WHOLE AFTERNOON TOGETHER. THEY RANGE IN AGES FROM 9 TO 16, AND THEY ARE ABOUT AS KIND AS CAN BE. THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH MORE THAN ANY CHILDREN SHOULD, BUT THEY ARE HOPING IT LEADS TO THEM FINDING THEIR FOREVER HOME. IT’S NOT ALL GIRLS. I JUST FEEL LIKE GOD’S PLACED KIDS WITH ME FOR CERTAIN REASONS AT DIFFERENT TIMES. MARY FREEMAN HAS BEEN A FOSTER PARENT FOR 23 YEARS. WHEN MARY AND HER HUSBAND BEGAN FOSTERING, THEY MADE IT THEIR MISSION TO TAKE IN SIBLINGS TO KEEP THEM FROM BEING SPLIT UP AMONGST OTHER HOMES. YOU JUST TRY TO GIVE THEM WHAT THEY NEED WHEN THEY’RE THERE. THREE YEARS AGO, FIVE NEW SIBLINGS JOINED HER FAMILY AS FOSTER KIDS 16 YEAR OLD BRAYDEN, 14 YEAR OLD CHEVY, TEN YEAR OLD CALEB AND NINE YEAR OLD TWINS VITA AND ZOE. I MEAN, THEY’RE GOOD KIDS. THEY REALLY ARE GOOD KIDS. I LOVE THEM AND MY FAMILY LOVES THEM. THE SIBLINGS ARE NOW READY TO BE ADOPTED, BUT AFTER MARY’S HUSBAND PASSED AWAY, IT MADE IT MORE DIFFICULT TO TAKE CARE OF THE KIDS. IT’S NOT THAT I DON’T WANT TO, I JUST CAN’T BECAUSE I HAVE NOBODY. I HAVE 13 GRANDKIDS AND YOU KNOW, I DON’T HAVE NOBODY TO. IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO ME, WHO’S GOING TO TAKE THEM? MARY HOPES THE SIBLINGS CAN FIND A FOREVER HOME TOGETHER. IT’S THE FIRST TIME HAMILTON COUNTY JOBS AND FAMILY SERVICES HAS TRIED TO PLACE FIVE SIBLINGS IN ONE HOME. THEY’RE GOOD KIDS AND THEY ALL HAVE, YOU KNOW, THEIR KIDS, THEY HAVE THEIR FLAWS. BUT EVERY CHILD DOES THAT. THEY ARE GOOD KIDS. WHEN I ASKED TEN YEAR OLD CALEB THE MOST IMPORTANT THING HIS NEXT HOME WILL HAVE FOOD. HIS SISTER VITA HOPES HER NEXT HOME WILL HAVE, WHAT, EVERY NINE YEAR OLD WANTS A PLAYGROUND AND STUFF, BUT MOSTLY JUST SPACE TO HAVE FUN WITH HER SIBLINGS. SHE WANTS. EVEN THOUGH THEY CAN GET ON HER NERVES SOMETIMES. HAVING BROTHERS ARE LIKE ANNOYING. HAVING SISTERS ARE, UM, ANNOYING TOO. I FEEL VERY BLESSED TO HAVE THEM COME TO ME. UM, AND I KNOW WHOEVER GETS THEM FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE WILL BE JUST AS BLESSED AS I FEEL. WELL, MARY HAS TAKEN IN 93 KIDS SINCE BECOMING A FOSTER PARENT, AND EACH OF THEM RECEIVES A SCRAPBOOK HANDMADE BY MARY WITH PHOTOS AND ARTWORK ALL COLLECTED DURING THEIR TIME WITH MARY’S FAMILY. AND SHE NOW HOPES THAT THE SIBLINGS CAN MAKE SOME NEW MEMORIES WITH THEIR FOREVER FAMILY. THERE ARE A LOT OF STORIES THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE, BUT THIS ONE REALLY CAN TODAY. LINDSAY. There are more than 400 kids waiting to be adopted in Hamilton County. All of them are looking for their forever homes.In a rare effort, Hamilton County Job and Family Services is trying to place five siblings together in one home. These five siblings range in ages from 9 to 16 and they are about as kind as can be. They've been through more than any children should but they're hoping it leads them to finding their forever home.Sixteen-year-old Brayden, 14-year-old Chevy, 10-year-old Kaleb and 9-year-old twins Vida and Zoey have spent the last few years in foster care under the care of Mary Freeman.“I just feel like God's placed kids with me for certain reasons at different times,” Freeman said.Freeman has been a foster parent for 23 years. When she and her husband began fostering, they made it their mission to take in siblings to keep them from being split up amongst other homes.“You just try to give them what they need when they're there,” Freeman said.The siblings are now ready to be adopted. But after Freeman’s husband died, it made it more difficult to take care of the kids.“It’s not that I don't want to, I just can't,” Freeman said. “I have 13 grandkids and I don't have anyone, if something happens to me, who is going to take them.”Freeman hopes the siblings can find a forever home together.“They're kids, and they have their flaws, but every child does that,” Freeman said. “They are good kids.”Ten-year-old Kaleb says the most important thing his next home will have is food. His sister, Vida, hopes her next home has what every 9-year-old wants.“A playground,” Vida said.
