The Hellenic Olympic Committee named Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo a flag-bearer for the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics. He and race walker Antigoni Drisbioti will carry Greece's flags during the opening ceremonies on the Seine River on July 26.
As Greece always walks first in the Olympics parade of nations, Antetokounmpo and Drisbioti will be the first athletes in the parade. Antetokounmpo will also become the first Black athlete to bear Greece's flag in the Games.
Sport24 in Greece reported Antetokounmpo the Olympic committee voted unanimously for Antetokounmpo.
The Greek basketball team qualified for the Olympics on July 7. This summer will be Greece's first Olympic games since 2008. The team includes Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kostas Antetokounmpo, Nick Calathes, Vassilis Charalampopoulos, Panagiotis Kalaitzakis, Giannoulis Larentzakis, Dinos Mitoglou, Dimitrios Moraitis, Georgios Papagiannis, Kostas Papanikolaou, Vassilis Toliopoulos and Thomas Walkup.
