Tornado watches, thunderstorm watches in effect for South-Central Pennsylvania
THAT’S RIGHT. ETHAN. WELL, WE’RE STILL WATCHING OUT FOR THE THREAT FOR SOME STRONG, POTENTIALLY SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AS WE HAVE A POWERFUL COLD FRONT THAT’S GOING TO BE CROSSING THE REGION, TAPPING INTO THE STEAMY AIR THAT’S STILL OUT THERE ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. SO WE DO HAVE A TORNADO WATCH STILL IN EFFECT FOR OUR NORTHERN COUNTIES. AND FOR AREAS FROM LEBANON OFF DOWN TO THE SOUTH. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH THAT’S IN EFFECT UNTIL 10:00. WE’VE HAD SOME SPIN IN THE ATMOSPHERE AND THERE HAS BEEN SOME ROTATION, SOME STORMS FOR OUR NORTHERN VIEWERS. NO WARNINGS JUST YET, BUT WE STILL HAVE SOME, AT LEAST THE ROBUST CHANCE THAT WE COULD SEE AN ISOLATED OR FEW SCATTERED TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS GOING THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS, DAMAGING WINDS AND HEAVY RAIN. THOSE ARE THE PRIMARY THREATS. LOWER THREAT FOR SOME HAIL AND THAT BRIEF SPIN UP TORNADO. BUT I WILL SAY THIS THESE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAVE HAD A HARD TIME BLOSSOMING, EVEN THOUGH IT IS SO HOT AND HUMID OUT THERE RIGHT NOW IN LANCASTER, WE HAVE BREAKS IN THE CLOUDS. WE’RE AT 89 DEGREES, BUT IT FEELS LIKE IT’S 96. IT’S ALSO WARM UP NEAR CLOUD LEVEL AND THAT’S BEEN PREVENTING A LOT OF THESE STORMS FROM FIRING UP IN THIS HIGH HEAT HUMIDITY. BUT WE ARE SEEING A SECONDARY LINE OF SHOWERS AND STORMS DEVELOP JUST THERE TO THE EAST OF BEDFORD. THESE STORMS ARE OUT AHEAD OF AN INCOMING COLD FRONT THAT WILL PUSH THROUGH DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. NORTHERN PORTIONS OF PENNSYLVANIA HAVE BEEN HIT VERY HARD, AND WE’RE ALSO SEEING SOME STRONG STORMS DOWN TOWARDS D.C. IT’S KIND OF GOING LIKE THIS. WE’LL SEE IF THIS SECOND LINE THAT’S DEVELOPING JUST NOW TO THE EAST OF BEDFORD, CAN PUSH IN OUT AHEAD OF THIS FRONT AND GIVE US SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, STORMS OR RAIN THAT WE DESPERATELY DO NEED. BUT DEFINITELY DON’T WANT THE SEVERE WEATHER THAT CAN COME WITH THAT AS WE GO THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS. SO IT’S STILL AN ALERT DAY AS WE DO HAVE THE THREAT FOR THESE SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OUT AHEAD OF THAT INCOMING FRONT, TEMPERATURES WILL START DROPPING INTO THE MID 80S. I DO EXPECT THE SHOWERS AND STORMS TO EXIT THE VALLEY BY ABOUT 10 TO 11:00. AS THE FRONT CLEARS THE REGION THAT WILL TAKE THE EDGE OFF OF THE HIGH HEAT HUMIDITY, BUT IT’S STILL GOING TO BE A MUGGY AND WARM NIGHT TONIGHT, WITH LOWS DOWN INTO THE LOW TO MID 70S. FOR TOMORROW, IT’S GOING TO BE A HOT DAY, BUT NOT AS HOT AS TODAY, NOR AS HUMID. HIGHS WILL BE NEAR 90 DEGREES WITH THOSE. FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES STAYING IN THE 90S. HERE’S A BREAKDOWN OF THE WEATHER AND HEALTH. AIR QUALITY WILL BE AT A GOOD LEVEL AND POLLEN COUNTS WILL REMAIN LOW. WE MADE IT TO 95 FOR A HIGH TODAY AFTER A MORNING LOW OF 78 DEGREES. IT WAS A OPPRESSIVE EARLY THIS MORNING AND THAT’S A NEW RECORD. WARMEST LOW TEMPERATURE. THE OLD RECORD WAS 77, SET BACK IN 1993. SO 91 RIGHT NOW IN LEBANON, 90 CURRENTLY IN YORK. BUT ACROSS MUCH OF THE VALLEY, IT STILL FEELS LIKE IT’S AT OR ABOVE 100 DEGREES. LOOK AT THESE DEW POINTS IN THE 70S TO NEAR 80 DEGREES. THIS IS TROPICAL HUMIDITY THAT’S OUT THERE. NOTICE THE HUMIDITY STARTING TO DROP BACK TOWARDS PITTSBURGH AND OVER THE OHIO RIVER VALLEY. BACK TO MORE SEASONABLE LEVELS. SO STILL THAT FRONT IS OFF TO OUR WEST. SO WE STILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO DEVELOP OUT AHEAD OF THAT FRONT AS IT PUSHES ACROSS THE REGION. SO WATCH WHAT HAPPENS HERE ON THE PREDICTOR. I DON’T THINK IT’S GOING TO BE AN INTENSE LINE ANYMORE. I THINK THEY’RE GOING TO BE SCATTERED IN NATURE AS THIS LINE PUSHES ON IN STARTS MOVING INTO OUR MAJOR CITIES BETWEEN I’D SAY 7 TO 9:00, AND THEN WE’LL START TO CLEAR THE VALLEY. BY THE TIME WE GET TO 11:00, AS THAT FRONT PUSHES ON BY, BE PREPARED FOR ANOTHER HOT DAY TOMORROW. TEMPERATURES WILL BE UP NEAR 90 DEGREES, BUT THE HUMIDITY WILL NOT BE AS INTENSE. I DO BELIEVE TOMORROW WE ARE GOING TO STAY DRY, BUT THE MORE MOISTURE COMES IN FROM THE SOUTH, HUMIDITY WILL RISE AND WE’LL SEE BETTER CHANCES FOR SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSHOWERS THROUGH THE DAY ON FRIDAY. BEST CHANCE FOR THOSE WILL BE DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS. SOME OF THOSE MAY LINGER INTO FRIDAY NIGHT, BUT THEN HERE COMES THE INTENSE HIGH HEAT AND HUMIDITY AGAIN, JUST IN TIME FOR THE WEEKEND WITH HIGHS IN THE LOW TO MID 90S, AND THEN WILL BE INTO THE UPPER 90S EARLY NEXT WEEK. BETTER CHANCES FOR SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS RETURN MID NEXT WEEK AS WELL, WITH TEMPERATURES STARTING TO DROP BACK DOWN CLOSER TO SE
