A man in a pickup truck was shot in the chest next to the Jackson Square Orange Line stop shortly before 2:40 p.m. The homicide unit was called in due to the severity of the victim's injuries.

A possible suspect on a scooter was detained several blocks away; a gun recovered along the route he took to get there.

Wellesley apartment buildings are apparently equipped with pitchforks in case some hay needs some pitching. The Swellesley Report reports (scroll down) that two men got into a verbal tiff in a local building when one grabbed a small pitchfork that just happened to be sitting there and threatened the other with it. The man then refused to answer his door when police came a-knockin', so they issued a summons to appear in court.

The MBTA is reminding Green Line riders that the B Line will be shut between Boston College and Babcock Street between Aug. 2 and 11 for some of those accelerated track repair sessions.

Bustitution, of course, except the buses won't stop at Allston Street, Griggs Street or Packards Corner for accessibility reasons.

GBH reports on why Boston has so many vacant lots in neighborhoods such as Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan that the city can now sell at low cost to developers - because of policies under which the city would quickly move to foreclose on homeowners in arrears on property taxes rather than try to help them out.

A bleary-eyed resident filed a 311 complaint at 1:33 a.m. this morning about the goings at the Roxbury Community College parking lot along Columbus Avenue:

Boat on a road in Cambridge

Cambridge Police report a driver hauling a boat on a trailer stopped for a red light at Cambridge and Third streets around 7 p.m., Saturday, the chains holding the boat on the trailer failed and the boat slid right into the road. Took about 40 minutes to get the boat off the road.

Oil barge

Eric Bender spotted this oil barge tied up at a dock near the Eddy and LoPresti Park on the East Boston waterfront today, along with its pusher tug, the Haggerty Girls (the orangish, red and white tower at the rear of the barge) - rather than at a petroleum depot on Chelsea Creek. He reports the Haggerty Girls crew told him they were waiting for divers to inspect the hull before continuing on their journey.

A South End man today sued a South Shore trampoline park for the foot slicing and subsequent infection and scarring he says he suffered because the place recklessly failed to provide any padding for the metal rod and associated bolts and screws that anchor its basketball hoops at its trampoline-basketball court.
