Meet the Sew Right Team

Steve has been in the Sewing Machine and Embroidery business since 1988. Following in his Grandfather's and Father's footsteps in a store in Jackson Heights, NY, which his grandfather opened in 1932.

He is the third generation to be serving customers in the highly-specialized Sewing & Embroidery machine field in sales, repairs, and customer training and education.

Steve keeps himself educated on new products, techniques & accessories, and he always pays close attention to customer service. By attending conferences and educational forums and participating in round tables with the nation's top dealers, Steve has created a national network that provides deep product knowledge and access to hard-to-find parts, machines, and accessories.
"I am very excited to begin my new collaboration with the highly knowledgeable and respected "Sew Right" team, a family of caring and dedicated professionals". Steve also said "As part of my experience in Sewing and Embroidery, I recognize how important repairs are for our customers, and Sew Right's renowned service department is one of the best in the business. Finally, I am thrilled and excited to have been given the opportunity to carry on the legacy created by Harvey with Sew Right Sewing Machines".

Maryann:  I started sewing at the age of 13 in High School like so many of us. Then went on to take fashion design and clothing construction classes.

In 1998 I was trying to create designs with applique. As my husband watched me, he said you need a better machine. He brought me to Sew Right. After being shown the top of the line machine that could sew and embroidery he said this is the machine you need. I thought he was out of his mind, cause I couldn't even turn on the home computer. We left with my new machine and with my husband's help, I started my new adventure with embroidery. In the months to come, I was going to the store to show them what I was doing. Eileen Green and Connie Ferraro started to tell Harvey that he should hire me, without me knowing. One year later a new top of the line machine came out and we traded up on 9/29/99. On this day Harvey asked me if I'd like to work here. As my husband said, "It's like putting a kid at Disney World". I started to work at Sew Right the following week.

I thank Harvey for putting his trust in me and giving me the opportunity to advance and grow with Sew Right. Over the years I have worked with the most wonderful co-workers who have become my friends and family of 17 years. My interaction with Sew Right's customers has been so rewarding and educational that I am proud to call Sew Right my home.

I am happy to also say that Harvey has left us in good hands with the new owner Steve Gruber ensuring a continued bright future. Maryann is now our Sewing, Embroidery and Serger expert and attends educational meetings annually around the country.

Elaine has been married to her husband Tom over forty years; they have three grown children and eight grandchildren. Sewing since she was twelve; her real passion is quilting! She started teaching quilting in 1986 and has taught from Manhattan to Montauk. She is the former President of Long Island Quilting Society and has been a member of LIQS since 1990.  Elaine joined the Sew Right Team in 1999! Elaine is our Fabric buyer and also teaches our quilting lessons.

Laurie: I am a transplanted Michigander who came to NYC to go to graduate school for Social Work in the early '80s and never left. I have been a needle arts crafter all my life and began to frequent Sew Right in the late '90s. In 2005 while having a conversation with Harvey the opportunity for employment came up. Despite his perception that the interview was progressing like a "bad first date," I've been here ever since. My social works skills have been great in my ability to relate to people. I perform a variety of tasks here but the focus is on developing classes, teaching quilting, ensuring the flow of fabric and notions run smoothly, and assisting in events and marketing campaigns. What were my avocation became my vocation and I enjoy every aspect of it.

Technician Jim Parsons has over 30 years of repair experience on all makes and models of sewing machines, sergers, and embroidery machines.

That is why our customers along with TV Networks, Broadway Theaters, College Costume and Wardrobe Departments as well as school districts all over NYC and Long Island trust us to repair their sewing equipment.
