KCCI launches third local TV channel
KCCI 8 is offering Iowans a new local channel featuring some of the most iconic police shows of all time, including Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue and The Commish paired with new drama classics like The Walking Dead and Law and Order: SVU.The channel, called My Des Moines, is available over the air on Channel 8.3 or on channel 109 on Mediacom cable -- it launched Monday morning.  It joins MeTV Des Moines, KCCI 8's other non-traditional local offering. You may need to re-scan your TV to find and lock in the new channel or just type 8.3 into your remote. According to KCCI 8 President and General Manager Brian Sather, "providing three separate channels of diverse programming is a really exciting opportunity for our market. Whether it's local news, weather and CBS programming on KCCI, classic and new dramas on My Des Moines, or classic comedy on MeTV Des Moines, we will have something for everyone."In addition to The Walking Dead and Law and Order: SVU, primetime on My Des Moines will include episodes of The Mentalist, Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Bones. Other programming will include The Adventures of Superman, Batman, Wagon Train, and The Untouchables.Sather says, "given Central Iowans' appreciation for MeTV Des Moines, launched in July, 2011, we know Central Iowans will love the 'dramatically different' programming they’ll get on My Des Moines."On MeTV Des Moines, viewers enjoy a programming day filled with memorable TV moments, including classics like The Rifleman, M*A*S*H, CHiPs and Cheers. According to Sather, "these timeless programs aren’t available anywhere else locally, so we’re excited to be able to offer them to our viewers in Central Iowa.""We are in conversation with all area cable providers to gain clearance for My Des Moines. Our hope is that, if not immediately, in the very near future, My Des Moines will be available on the majority cable systems in our viewing area. As with all of KCCI’s other broadcast offerings, My Des Moines is available for free over the air," Sather says.A complete list of programming for all three channels, plus a guide to local cable and satellite channel positions, will be published as clearances are reached onKCCI.com.
