Popular Des Moines music festival changing venues this year
This year the 80/35 Music Festival has picked up and moved to Water Works Park.
It's a change from its longtime home in the Western Gateway Park, an area the popular festival has outgrown.
"We have space to grow. We have space for parking. We have space for camping," said Andy TeBockhorst, of the Greater Des Moines Music Coalition.
But at least one constant issue is following the festival to its new home.
"80/35 is always in July. It's July in Iowa, we know it is going to be hot," TeBockhorst said.
Water Works Park offers large mature trees that Western Gateway Park does not. The project manager said the trees at Water Works Park will offer shade if attendees start to feel the heat. There will be a hammock village area to chill out. And of course, there will be a lot of good old H2O.
"Obviously we are in Water Works Park. We have lots of water here. Lots of water fill stations. Free water everywhere," said Tom Zmolek, 80/35 project manager.
Zmolek also offered a tip for those who plan to enjoy adult beverages.
"If you are here for the party and drinking alcohol. We suggest what we call a spacer to have a bottle of water in between each can of beer. It really hydrates your system," he said.
