Hi-fi rush game notes:
- excellent intro too the characters
- soundtrack absolutely slaps.
- the voice acting is fantastic.
- sometimes I do really wish I had a sprint button.
- The entire world moving to the beat is really cool. Even enemy movements are synced to it and it's just incredibly unique.
- The comedy is absolute gold. I can't even count the number of times I've laughed playing this game.
- Surprisingly challenging at times.
- Some of the best boss fights in video games. Not necessarily difficult. Just so much style. I really enjoyed them.
- The main cast of this game is absolutely fantastic. Like persona level party dynamics.
- I love this games art style. Seriously. It constantly oozes cool. You start a boss battle and the song info pops up bottom left like a music video. The chapters are presented like song progressions. Just on and on I'm impressed with the presentation.
- I really, really liked this one. So much personality and style. Just an absolute treat. It's an actual tragedy tango got shut down.
Like a Dragon Gaiden game notes:
- Yup. This is more Yakuza. Always a good time. Short end is I Thoughouhly enjoyed this game and it's yet another quality yakuza game.
- new cabaret hostess side stuff is kind of weird being real people, but I actually prefer it.
- There is quite a bit of side content. More than you would initially think being a shorter yakuza. And it's pretty good stuff.
- Certain features missing, like vending machines. It's nothing big but I do notice a few things.
- agent powers are pretty interesting.
- The music during tournament event selection is awesome. Samurai Champloo type stuff.
- This game tying in directly with yakuza 7 is awesome.
- being back in sotembori is nice. I always was a fan of the area.
- fight sequences in the game are great. Lots of nostalgia.
- Wow the end of this game really hits you in the feels. Great story writing.
Returnal game notes 6/24
- This game is hard as ****. I mean, this is easily the hardest game I've played since sekiro came out. Shout out to all the co-op partners that absolutely carried my bum *** through this game.
- Visually very impressive.
- Action is very fast and in your face. And combat itself is very exciti****meplay is very responsive, framrates also are a plus.
- Game does not do a great job explaining items and resources.
- Not a fan of having to crack the DaVinci code to finish act 3. Seriously I'm having to use guides just to figure out what the hell I'm even suppose to do.
- The community for this game is one of the best I've ever experienced. Everyone has been friendly and helpful.
- boss fights in this game are done very well. A cut well above average.
- I was nervous about doing the tower DLC. It has to be done solo, includes story, and is suppose to be this games most difficult challenge. I find the tower is this game at its best. It really feels like a roguelite, and is genuinely fun. While it is challenging, it's also very doable for even an average player like myself. Pro tip, complete the main games true ending prior to the tower so you have all of the upgrades.
- The story is convoluted, and told mostly with symbolism. Upon completing the game I youtubed "returnal ending explained". I recommend that. As it's a very interesting natative told in a unique way that's worth understanding.
- All in all this is a very challenging game but it is also very rewarding. If your struggling just summon Randoms for co-op. The community is more than willing to backpack you. That said, once you get "good" at this game, it is very satisfying.
Infamous game notes 6/24
- This game has aged terribly. Visually, gameplay and writing all included.
- Whenever I do parkour it's uncomfortably difficult at first. Everytime I jump from one platform to the next it has strong "Jesus take the wheel" vibes. But yeah you basically just mash X and your guy does the rest.
- The world building makes absolutely no sense. there's just people being randomly shot in the street by mounted 50 Cals and RPGs and their isn't any police to be seen, no military, and no consequences. There are guys with ak47s patrolling around 1 hostage while the rest of the civilian population is just moseying about their day without a care in the world.
- how many missions am I going to go back into the sewers to reset generators? All of them, it would seem. And they just keep getting worse. Manual save is your friend because the checkpoints during these segments is occasionally pretty awful.
-I'm currently talking to my buddy Zeke on the radio while I'm actively standing next to Zeke in the game. Gotta love it.
- Speaking of Zeke, he's the only character with any level of substance. The main character, the side characters and the bad guys are all just bland vanilla scented trash bags.
- I like the sort of comic book style of cut scenes. But I wish I was experiencing these moments instead of still frames and dialogue.
- playing on ps5 streaming I have not figured out a way to open my map, and I'm halfway through the game. I've done it once on accident somehow during a mission, so I know it exists.
- There's so many random injured people littered throughout the city. All of them writhing in pain rolling on the ground. No one helps them. Or comments. Coles real super power is being able to see these poor invisible people that all need to be cured by electrical shocks.
- I did like the ending. That was neat. However the game itself largely felt like a chore, and ironically, draining to play.
Beyond two souls game notes 6/24
- Premise of this game is pretty interesti****mes a looker for a PS3 game.
- I'm going to be honest I got rather bored at times during the middle chapters of this game.
- The complete lack of directions at times is a real drag. I often don't know what my objective is. Way to much of my time is spent aimlessly walking around and interacting with objects hoping it will be what I'm looking for to progress the plot. Make it simple, have your character have inner dialogue you can refer to like "well I guess I better go enjoy the party" or "I think I left so and so in my room". Just giving me a nudge in the right direction would have alleviated a lot of my criticism.
- There is a lot of random love interests for this type of game.
- Combat in this game, while visually pretty neat, is rather frustrating at times.
- Interacting with objects is also frustrating at times. I'll see there's something I can interact with, but not know what it is. And sometimes that makes my character slam on the gas in a car, or some other crazy shit. Forcing me to reload checkpoint. This is compounding frustration too since you don't have access to any form of objective list or markers. You often times literally just walk around looking for objects to interact with hoping that it's what your looking for to progress the game. So these objects being unmarked, without a clear indication of what they are, is kind of awful.
- The variation of chapter length is kind of crazy. Some chapters take 5 minutes or less and others take 1-2 hours. The game frequently feels like it's one extreme or the other.
- I do think this game sticks it's landing. The ending is a cut above most games, though admittedly it's naratively the weakest of quantic dreams games I've played.
-At it's best this game is a naratively engaging and interesting sci-fi thriller. However at it's worse it's an absolute chore.
God of War 3 game notes 06/2024
- The arts type for the intro is pretty sweet. Also an interesting way to give a summary of the story so far.
- Going from God of War 2 immediately to 3 has been shocking. The graphical upgrade is immense. And the game is immediately the most interesting the series has ever been. The premise of the game is great. Combat feels better. The brutality is next level for the series and I love it.
- Kratos has had zero character development
- You feel like an absolute badass playing as Kratos slamming your chain blades around.
- This was God of Wars trilogy at its absolute finest.
Heavy Rain game notes (2024)
(mild spoiler warning)
- Walking controls are horrendous. Maybe the worst I've ever experienced. And walking through crouds is nightmare fuel.
- The story is a bit slow at first, but it flirts with 10/10 territory narratively. The problem is it has mediocre execution at times. Ultimately it sticks the landing and are rewarded with a very satisfying story that can branch many ways. They do an excellent job of masking who the killer is while leaving breadcrumbs along the way for someone who might be more savvy than I am.
- Absolutely look nothing up. It's very easy to restart chapters.
- Youtube alternate endings after you complete the game if you don't plan on a second playthrough. Specifically "perfect crime ending" and "four heroes ending". They're very unique and worth the watch.
- Why does everyone pronounce origami weird?
- They did a very creative job with QTE events. I mean, about as good as QTE can be. Some of them are actually pretty hard, and I play a lot of games.
- Time passing in this game being measured in inches of rainfall is really novel, I dig it.
-NPCs were so goofy back in 2009.
- This games use of split camera perspectives and multi camera perspectives is probably the best I've ever seen. It's a shame more games don't do this.
- One of the suspects names is John Shepard, and this came out after mass effect. Feel like you shouldn't name them the same name as famous characters.
- I bet this game was visually impressive when it came out.
- I dig the piano pieces over the rainfal. Creates a nice atmosphere. And one of the main themes, idk it's name, but it's a beautiful piece of music.
- Oh man, John wick part was cool.
- Wow. Some really hard hitting moments. Heavy stuff. I'm almost tearing up here near the end.
- Having very short chapters is really nice in this type of game. You can quickly go to main menu and retry sections you mess up.
- a solid 8/10. A beautiful narrative held back only by time.
