**** THIS GAME. I played it a while ago and gave an original review of a 7, but a few months later and all i can remember is how tedious that dumbass graffiti adventure hunt was and it’s soured any original opinion I had. Also David Cage is evil and all of his games pretend to be intelligent and mould-breaking which they’re not.
Not to mention the crazy comparison of the American civil rights movement to the movement of androids wanting freedom (???) going as far as to use iconic quotes from Martin Luther King as graffiti which is actually insane.
Also, Kara’s storyline was a complete waste and was a complete mess. It would’ve been better if we played as Rose or her son instead of a random android kidnapping someone’s “kid”.
If you want to play a game that’s choice-based, I beg you to play the dark pictures anthology, until dawn or the quarry. Supermassive has far more interesting stories to tell than David Cage and the games aren’t tedious and boring, and your choices actually matter throughout the game.
If you want to play because of the androids literally just play cyberpunk.
If you like a good story and minimal combat other than QTE’s play As Dusk Falls, it has the best story out of all other choice based games and your choices actually have lingering consequences. The only thing bringing it down is the graphics.
There, you have 5 (Nine if you’re including all the dark pictures games) games to play instead of this pos, don’t make the mistake of buying this you’ll rue the day you saw a Connor edit on TikTok and was manipulated into buying this trash.
But the graphics are pretty so 2/10.
I HATE this game. It’s taken over £200 from me though.
This game is genuinely so good. I have never played Alan Wake 1 and bought this game completely blind, but it’s genuinely one of the most entertaining games I’ve ever played so far. I haven’t finished it but the soundtrack and gameplay speak for themselves. I love Sam Lake.
This game is terrible but there are two main things that are very blatant issues. There is no soundtrack in the open world unless you are in a car, only dead silence. It’s extremely annoying.
The second issue issue is with the NPC’s. For a game that came out after read dead redemption 2 and is charging a similar price tag, the lack of effort on the studio’s part to make the open world immersive is genuinely shocking. You run into the same two enemies everywhere, the idols and los panteros who are predictable and uninteresting.
I can name one thing that’s good with this game and it’s the customisation. The vehicle customisation and character customisation are incredibly well-made and in all honesty was the only thing making me play the game. I created a character from another game that i enjoy and seeing this character in the story was the only entertaining thing about it. My favourite part about this game was driving around in my car, albeit terribly since I crashed ever two seconds (my fault, not the game’s) but even that couldn’t save the miserable open world and the short and predictable story.
I originally rated this game a 6 because I had never played GTA or really any other open world in a realistic setting, but then I started Red Dead 2 and GTA V and realised how much effort studios were MEANT to put into games, despite those two games being released earlier than Saint’s row.
I’ve never played any of the other saints row’s though, so this review is almost unbiased.
Okay, so this review is absolutely not worth reading because it’s not about the game, it’s about the graphics. They’re wayyyy too ambitious for the switch, which makes it insanely headache inducing and just triggers so much uncanny valley. I hope once they release a more powerful console they’ll make a remastered version.
I thought seeing characters outside of the main cast was a bit interesting. Not really worth the money if you bought the DLC though (Which I din’t think you can anymore? idk).
The menu music. Need I say more?
Don’t ask why I’m playing this game on the Switch.
(I made this review before I got a ps5)
Haven’t finished it yet but so far it’s so damn good 😭 (I ended up never finishing it)
The first game I played without being terrified on the PS5 (The first was RE2)
Genuinely one of my favourite games of all time despite the rating.
This was my introduction to choice-based games, so it holds a really special place in my heart. (That and the fact that it has all of my childhood favourite YouTubers in an episode so…)
