Playing this game after watching HBO’s series made me nervous that this game wouldn’t have as much impact. I still was tearing up throughout the prologue and final chapters. One of the greatest stories I’ve experienced.
It’s good to point out that 10/10 stands for masterpiece and not perfect. Do I think this game is perfect? No certainly not. With a game this large, it makes sense that the pacing can feel sluggish at points with certain pieces of side content feeling more like bloat than important facets to the story.
Those complaints aside, I think Final Fantasy Rebirth does a tremendous job of creating an open world that I care to be in and one that didn’t overwhelm me in my 100+ hour first playthrough. The secret sauce for Rebirth were the party members you got to learn more about and grow in relations with. There wasn’t one party member that I ended up rolling my eyes if they were involved in a side quest. It doesn’t hurt when regular traversal, side quests, and main quests are all showcased in conjunction with likely the best soundtrack in all gaming history.
Great magical experience that I will be thinking about for years to come.
One of the best modern metroidvanias I’ve been able to experience recently. The eye of the wanderer ability, which allows you to capture screenshots onto your map is a fantastic innovation that I hope future games adopt. Long gone are the days of “where was that one puzzle I couldn’t do?” It now can be captured on your map! Main story was fun and intriguing but the overall lore and world building didn’t do it for me. Great game! Would recommend to new and old fans of the genre.
This was a great blast to the past, but I couldn’t help but wish for abilities and QOL enhancements that were later found in Sly2 and Sly3.
Glad this got a PS5 port. Anxiously awaiting for the ports of the rest of the series!
One of my favorite games growing up got the remake treatment for the switch and I couldn’t be happier that more people get a chance to check it out. I still think this is my favorite Paper Mario from a nostalgia standpoint, but I think it’s hard to overlook some “old game” tendencies that plague this game. Pacing and weird end-game difficulty spikes make me much more cooler on the experience than I would have anticipated.
Some of these outdated game design issues, while present, don’t take away from an overall really solid game. An absolute must play for those who haven’t played before. Thankful for the nostalgia trip.
Alan Wake 2 was my GOTY 2023 so no shock that I am happy to get some new content so soon. While this DLC is quite short (~1.5 hours), I found a lot of enjoyment in the variety of gameplay, tone, and characters of the DLC.
The lack of overarching lore makes this game not required reading in my opinion, but any fan of the series or Remedy-verse will have something fun to chew on while we await the final DLC for the project.
My hopes is that the next DLC will have a little more focus on Alan Wake and Saga Anderson and their relationship with Door.
Nothing hits quite as hard at the end of a stressful day like the satisfying gameplay of PowerWash Simulator. Looking forward to more fun licensed DLC packs in the future!
One of the best atmospheres I have experienced in gaming. This coupled with a great soundtrack makes for a fun experience. Some of my experience is probably dampened by playing this so far after release when I understood the fun multiplayer twist ahead of time. Wish there was a way to experience this with a friend and not just with randoms, if you are lucky enough to get one to connect during your run. Still would recommend for the vibes alone.
Loved experiencing this game for the first time as I prep for FF7: Rebirth. Definitely plays like a PSP game in areas, but seems like the definitive way to play this key FF7 side adventure. Worth the experience, but the completionist activities are a slog to get through for the platinum.
Give this game a whopping 7 slices of pizza out of 10. Good time that reminded me so fondly of my childhood playing on an arcade cabinet. Fun bite-size adventure. Enjoyed the co-op experience but did not feel compelled to stick around after the story mode.
How do you follow up to one of the best narrative experiences in the past decade? At first I was unsure that this story was needed, but after playing this game in its completeness I am more confident than ever that this narrative was needed for this overall story. The character depth is of Shakespearean quality with complicated emotions and sometimes flawed ambitions. Truly a masterclass in character development and story telling.
An innovative and fun game that was a blast to play with a friend. The game mechanics are unique and make for an excellent co-op adventure. Is Drinkbox Studios one of my favorite game developers? Maybe.
This game is a great way to further realize characters that you love and to replay key moments from the anime and manga. Unfortunately, very repetitive combat and dreadful side content that makes finishing this game a drag. Overall, an okay game.
