This game is just an incredible experience. There were few instances of frustration. However, I usually could just come back to it later with a fresh mind and new tools, making it just that much easier. I love the crypticness of the game and am looking forward to uncovering more of its secrets.
It’s amazing how we’re at 4 mainline Pikmin games and yet each one continues to improve and surpass the previous one. I thoroughly enjoyed the new perspective, characters, and QoL features introduced in this game. Often the text felt slow as there were animations that needed to be finished before text boxes could be skipped; this was the only pacing issue I had with this game.
This game has a lot going for it: the uniqueness of each civilization, combat is deeper than ever with strategies and formations, the unique way of story telling in the campaign, building bonuses…the list goes on. However, the uninspired visual identity completely ruins the experience for me.
In previous games, each unit/upgrade/building/environment is visually distinct. This game feels muddy and bland. Colours are washed and overall the graphics are lacking compared to other current gen games. Units are barely distinguishable from each other. Icons, while crisp, do not convey much information and you have to rely on reading the information panels more than you would like.
Essentially, nothing is easily discernible at a glance, and the game feels more like you’re playing Where’s Waldo.
Narratively, ME1 is the strongest. In every other way, ME2 is the strongest. Unfortunately, the lows of ME3 bring the trilogy down as a whole; as well as numerous graphical and mechanical glitches. At times, the ME3 felt like a slog to get through and not nearly as rich of an experience.
ME1 was better than I remember.
ME2 was as good as I remember.
ME3 was, unfortunately, worse than I remember.
Only criticism is that is way too dark at times.
