The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is excellent! I bought this book for my eight year old nephew for Christmas and he was so excited when he unwrapped this gift! Part of his excitement was just being able to own this book. A lot of his friends have this series and this was the newest book at the time, so he felt cool that he had it too.

My nephew enjoyed the cover design of this book and he loved that it was a hardcover. The inside was great, and the words were simple enough to read, yet just the right amount of challenge for him. He loved the pictures, and he thought it was cool that it looked like a kid's drawing. He actually started drawing his own similar pictures with his own story. It was an all around fun experience for him.

As a grown up, I thought this book was great. Like I said, I enjoyed how the words were simple but challenging (at least for his age). The pictures broke up the text to not make the book seem too big and intimidating. I think Author Jeff Kinney did a great job writing this book. It's definitely a great, fun read for young boys and girls of both elementary and middle school age.

I would recommend this book, as well as the rest of the Wimpy Kid series to children looking for an interesting book. My nephew is a reluctant reader, but this book was able to peak and keep his interest.

I'll be honest with you: I found the last couple of Wimpy Kids books to be underwhelming, so I wasn't sure what I expected from yet another entry. Luckily, to my surprise, the gags proved funny consistently throughout the book, making this one of my favorite entries in the series.

As with many other books in the series, it takes a while for the actual plot to surface. But that's fine--the gags that open the book are quite amusing. And once the plot does surface, it proves to be an interesting one. Greg wants to go to a dance, but he has to find a date, so he has roped his friend Rowley into helping him. The drastic measures he's willing to take to get a girl's attention prove quite amusing.

One thing that really made this stand out from the other books in the series is that I really felt myself sympathizing with Greg. Sure, he's no angel, but he isn't as callous as he's been in the previous books. His amazing strokes of bad luck made me pity him.

By the way, one point of caution: if your kids seriously still believe that storks deliver babies, then don't get them this book. Greg talks about what it was like to be inside his mother's tummy.

Oh, and by the way, a 23-year-old is writing this review, so the book can be a fun, lighthearted read for adults as well.
