Darby Bybee

Chief Meteorologist

Meteorologist Darby Bybee joined 40/29 News in November 2012. Darby is certified by the American Meteorological Society and joined 40/29 from KARK-TV in Little Rock.

Darby was named Chief Meteorologist in June 2015. You can watch Darby's forecasts every weekday on 40/29 News at 5:00, 6:00, and 10:00 p.m. on ABC.

And at 9 p.m. on The Arkansas CW.

Darby enjoys forecasting the weather in The River Valley and Northwest Arkansas where he says he really feels at home between the Ozarks and the Plains.  "My two obsessions are storm chasing and climbing, so, I don't think there's a better spot in the country for both of those."

In the last decade Darby has covered 18 states, and logged more than 50 thousand miles storm chasing. Not surprisingly, he says, "severe weather is really my specialty."

Darby grew up in the country near Freedom, Indiana where his passion for the weather grew throughout childhood and eventually led him to his first internship with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis and a degree in meteorology from Ball State University.  Throughout college Darby chased severe storms in the Midwest with other students.

After an internship at WISH-TV in Indianapolis Darby landed his first job in Lincoln, Nebraska at KLKN where he forecasted weekend weather and reported several days a week.  Three years in the central plains brought with it a wealth of weather knowledge, including frequent severe weather coverage.

In 2011 Darby was offered a position as weekend meteorologist at KARK-TV in Little Rock where he spent more than a year fine tuning his forecasting in Arkansas.  When 40/29 came calling he says, "it was a no brainer."

Besides his love for climbing and storm chasing Darby is also a devoted dog owner.  You can find pictures of his "little girl," Tonks, by following him on Facebook and twitter.  There, you can interact with Darby, share your own pictures and follow his weather postings.
