This is one of the oldest surviving recordings of a trans person.

Masoud El Amaratly (1897-1944) was an Iraqi trans singer who became famous in 1920s Baghdad for his folk music. He worked as a farmer before transitioning in his teens. The mustarjil, a term similar to trans man, then moved to the city and sang in cafés. A music agent discovered him there and his fame spread across West Asia.

Enjoy this 1925 recording of him singing the traditional Iraqi song, “Khadri al Chai” (“Please Make Tea”). Check out Ajam’s website for more.

Please stop conflating heresy blasphemy and apostasy. It’s a victimless crime but it irritates me on principle

BLASPHEMY is to speak against a religion’s doctrine and practices. To say “The Holy Roman Catholic Church has been abandoned by God for taking indulgences” is blasphemous.

HERESY is to preach and act in contradiction with your religion’s doctrine, dogma, and practices. “Pope Leo has no right to tell me as a priest to retract certain statements I have made about our religion” is heretical.

APOSTASY is to separate yourself from your religion and no longer follow it. “I’m going to create the most insufferable denomination on the planet in about 150 or so years” is what Martin Luther said, nailing his list of HR complaints to a door as he became an apostate.

Every time I see someone ranting about this, they leave out Sacrilege and I’m just

90% of the time, the stuff I see on this site is neither blasphemy, heresy, or apostasy. Heresy and Apostasy specifically require you to be a part of the religion you are mocking. Sacrilege is the act of profaning, desecrating, or just plain misusing religious symbology.

Come on, let’s get it together guys.

threatening white woman aura so calibrated its effects can be felt for light years. my tv has bite marks where i tried to Get Her. i’ve seen the entirety of ds9 numerous times and she still elicits a feeling that makes me want to jump through the screen and throw her out an airlock. amazing character

Girl are you the Hays Code the way you consider media irredeemable if it depicts anything that strays away from the norm you’re comfortable with or depicts anything morally questionable without definitively condemning it and anyone associated with it, therefore creating worse stories and content and making it difficult for people to engage with complicated issues from a nuanced and controlled perspective?

You’re not immune to being the bully btw. You’re not immune to being in the wrong

“But i’m-” there is no identity or state of being that makes you immune to hurting someone. You can be convinced that you are in the right for doing so. You can be convinced that you’re defending someone by doing so. You have always got to examine if you’re taking pleasure in hurting someone or if you’re actually doing something good.
