The following Stranger Things-related events occurred in 2016:
July[]
- July 15: The first season of Stranger Things was released.
August[]
- August 12: Volume 1 of the first season's soundtrack was released digitally.
- August 19: Volume 2 of the first season's soundtrack was released digitally.
- August 31: The second season was announced by Netflix for a 2017 release.
October[]
- October 14: Two new series regulars joining the series were announced: Sadie Sink as Max and Dacre Montgomery as Billy. Additionally, Joe Keery and Noah Schnapp were promoted from recurring to regular cast members.[1]
November[]
- November 7: Filming commenced on the second season in Atlanta, Georgia. Linnea Berthelsen was cast in a recurring role as "Roman". Additionally, Paul Reiser (Dr. Owens) and Sean Astin (Bob Newby) were also casted.[2]
- November 18: Brett Gelman was announced as being cast in a recurring role as Murray Bauman.[3]
