Fresh N Lean Ceases Meal Delivery Operation, Leaving Bitter Message on Website
The California-based healthy meal delivery subscription appears to be closing up shop after 14 years.
Fresh N Lean appears to have shuttered, according to a cryptic message on its website.
Fresh N Lean, the popular premade meal delivery service based out of California, appears to have shuttered suddenly.
The healthy meal subscription, which is CNET's current pick for best prepared meal delivery for 2024, posted a message at the top of its website on Thursday. "After 14 years of service, Fresh N Lean was suddenly forced to shut down by 'lenders,'" it reads. "We deeply appreciate our customers and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for years of support."
Fresh N Lean appears to have shuttered its popular meal delivery service after 14 years of business.
On Friday, a new, unsigned message on the website's front page added more:
"A 'lender' bought fresh N Lean debt, kicked out the principles, and failed to run the business," it says. "An overnight decision was made to fire 300 employees and liquidate the company. It is with an extreemely heavy heart that we must walk away from this company, and its mission to make high quality nutrition accessible to all."
A link to order Fresh N Lean meals or begin a new subscription shows a 404 error message.
Fresh N Lean was started in 2010 by then 18-year-old Laureen Asseo, and was one of the first in a new line of healthy premade delivery options to capture the attention of busy people looking to eat better. The service sent premade healthy meals to service a variety of eating plans, including keto, vegan, Mediterranean and high-protein diets. It was known for its use of whole foods, quality meat and seafood, and organic produce.
It's unclear whether active orders will be fulfilled or if the company plans to resume business. Company representatives didn't respond to a request for comment.
